I was shocked to learn of Karen's passing. "Softie" was a special woman and a very special friend although it was many years ago that we last spoke. I was hoping to renew our friendship by calling to wish her a happy birthday when I discovered this piece. We were close in our days together at Xavier and beyond. I learned much from Karen and I loved her dearly...no, I love her dearly. I pray that you have found the peace and happiness that so often eluded you. God bless.

Karen was intelligent, vibrant, caring, thoughtful, and a great friend during a very challenging time in my life. Peace to her and to her family - the world is a better place for her having been here, and poorer for her absence.

To the family, I am sorry to hear the news about your loss. May the God who "binds up the brokenhearted" and "comforts all who mourn" sustain your family during this challenging time. Isaiah 61:1,2*

I worked with Karen in a Marketing/Communications agency in Dayton -- an engaging, energetic, smart and funny gal with outstanding skills in copywriting and creative direction. Karen was a blast to work with. My condolences to her family. Know that she touched so many lives and left us all the richer for it.

She was our neighbor, our "family" for almost 20 years. When we first met, Karen was an international commodity: she mentored corporations and authored books. She had two German Shepherds, Katie and Kelly, she loved them ferociously. We weathered the Recession, barely hanging on. Karen's jobs quickly succumbed to the Recession. This was the impetus to delve into her hobbies for income. Karen moved, we lost touch, then we moved. I know Karen wanted her daughter to know about her pre-Recession career, she did not want her to see her like "this". I will forever remember her easy smile, her laugh, working in her yard, a glass of wine or coffee around her kitchen table. And now donating her body to science reiterates how she lived her life.

I went to grade school and high school with Karen, and I always liked her. She was intelligent, witty and fun to be around.

I met Karen when we were crafters at House of Santa Mouse. She was a wonderful mentor to those of us starting out in the craft show circuit....making suggestions and ideas about how to best show our products. Karen was such a talented artist and writer, very creative and maker of beautiful fused glass items.
Karen touched all those who knew her.

Karen was good at motivating people. I loved her jewelry and wear it often. Most of all, I will remember her concern when I was going through my cancer treatments. How odd it turned out that she too would soon become a cancer victim. Her battle was much larger than mine though. I know she fought as hard as she could. Rest in peace, friend.
