Nina Clyne Obituary

Nina Mendoza Clyne

Cincinnati - Nina Mendoza Clyne MD, FACP. Passed away at home on January 12, 2021 from complications of a degenerative spinal condition she had fought most bravely. She was surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by David her former partner and husband of 47 years, daughter Suzanne, son Andrew, son-in-law Shea, daughter-in-law Gina, grandchildren Esmé, Dylan, Sebastien and Enzo, siblings Linda, Avelino, Lucrecia, Cecilia, Renaldo and Vikki.

Born in Manila on November 6, 1940 to Avelino and Tomasa Mendoza Nina grew up and was educated in the Philippines receiving her MD degree in 1964. She then completed her training in Philadelphia, then Chicago. In 1973 she married David, moved to Cincinnati where she worked as a nephrologist at The Christ Hospital for 37 years, later adding the Mercy east side hospitals to her practice. David joined the practice in 1989.

Nina was small in stature but mighty in spirit, working long hours but never complaining. She was loved by many patients, colleagues and students She was twice awarded the Marion A. Blankenthorn award for clinical teaching by the University of Cincinnati where she was an Associate Clinical Professor. She tried to give every patient enough time, sometimes playing havoc with her schedule.

Nina was a devout Catholic who returns in peace to her Maker. A memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Friends may leave online condolences at www.springgrove.org.

Nina and David were my next door neighbor for 40 years. My wife and I were blessed to have such a wonderful neighbor and friend. We laughed and talked frequently mostly about our joint interest in plants & trees. There are simply not enough words to express her loss. Godspeed Nina. We love you and will miss you.

My deepest sympathy to her family. She took care of my husband for years. Beyond a shadow of a doubt , it was her meticulous care, he is 38 years post transplant. She was ALWAYS available. Always caring. Always gentle. I will hold her and her family in my prayers. What a terrible loss to so many. May she Rest In Peace with the angels.

Dr. Clyne and family my sincerest condolences on the loss of Dr. Mendoza. I was a patient for 20 plus years and I can still hear her saying my name like no one else and a flurry of skirts and purse when she walked into a hospital room to check on you. She will be missed by many.

Dr. Clyde and family my condolences for the loss of Dr. Mendoza. As a former employee of Christ Hospital I can tell you Dr. Mendoza was very respected and love by all. Her smile and her love of designer purses will never be forgotten.

Nina had the kind of decency and warmth of spirit that was simply pure. Some two decades ago when I became her colleague - me freshly minted out of fellowship, with my son in tow, in a new city - Nina was among the first to embrace me without pretense. From sharing her and David’s box at the ATP tourney with us early on, to soothing career rough waters over the years.. Nina became symbolic as a force for good in my whole family. A truly special light has passed on, may she rest in the Peace that she deserves.
