Nathan Cain Obituary

Nathan Joseph Cain

Decatur, GA - Nathan Joseph Cain, 40, of Decatur, Georgia passed away on November 9, 2017. He was born to Larry and Maria Corriols Cain in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 28, 1977. The family moved to Asheville, North Carolina where he spent his teenage years. He graduated from Carolina Day School in 1995. Nathan went on to graduate from Presbyterian College with a double major in biology and english and eventually received a master's degree in mass communication from the University of Georgia. Always creative and clever, Nathan became a journalist and writer. He won an Associated Press Award for deadline reporting and published several short stories, one of which was nominated for an award by Spinetingler Magazine. He was a voracious reader and a reviewer of crime fiction novels in his free time. He was also an avid outdoorsman. Fishing trips with his father and brother were special to him, as well as time spent with his uncles and cousins. A music fan, he was constantly discovering new music and attending concerts. He was quiet with a wry sense of humor and a kind, empathetic heart for those in need. He is survived by his parents Larry and Maria Cain of Fairview, NC; his brother Christopher of Fairview, NC; his sister Adrienne Cain Williams (Daniel) of Atlanta, GA and his fiancée Kathryn Smith of Decatur, GA.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 16 from 6 to 8 pm at Groce Funeral Home (856 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805). His memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 17 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Asheville (17 Shawnee Trail, Asheville, NC 28805). A short graveside service will follow at Calvary Churchyard at Calvary Episcopal Church (2840 Hendersonville Road, Fletcher, NC 28732). Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church Mission Fund.

I was Nathan's editor while he worked for The Covington News. Unfortunately, I left for law school and subsequently out of state, but I just learned of his passing. I am terribly, terribly sorry for your loss. He was a good man and a good friend.

Nathan cain had some great writing back in college. I knew him best when I was the technical editor of the Presbyterian College 'Net Publication, the first, but very short lived school sponsored Internet Publication at Presbyterian College. Attached is his bio page from the old site. I've got a copy of all of Nathan's old work on PCNP as well that I may either post in the coming days or provide to anyone interested. I haven't talked to Nathan since our college days but I have memories of fellowship and camaraderie on this publication.

Maria and Larry and family--I am just heart broken for all of you over the lose of your dear son and brother, Nathan. I was just rejoicing with you, Maria, about his engagement and soon to be marriage. I pray for all of you including his lovely fiance that the Lord will comfort each one in a very deep and special way. My love to you at this very difficult time. Elaine Wagner
