Orvel was brightly leading students thru transition from Central to South when I met him circa 1968 (?) -- I couldn't completely avoid him from then on -- nor did I want to. He became an advisor, counselor, fundraiser, rabble rouser, historian, writer, Kiwanian, leader, supporter, client, and friend. He never hesitated to share compliments and the pride he had for his family. He was a deep, complex, funny, spiritual, educated man and I'm very happy I have had the time with him that I did. He has left progeny and a legacy of teaching that has affected thousands positively. He lived life!

Dear Mrs. Criqui and Children,
I'm so glad that I was able to meet Orvel last May while I was in Lawrence. I had heard my father-in-law Sherman, and his sister Ione Morford speak of Orvel many times. Orvel was always good to check up on the Morford family. Especially after Sherman's death and after the Greensburg tornado. Ione appreciated Marvin calling to tell her that Orvel had died. We knew that he had recently been in the hospital. Ione will especially miss Orvel's cheery notes and family history discussions.

Orvel was a joy to sit with at the KU basketball games. He always had a joke and a smile. My thoughts are with the family.

Mrs. Criqui and family,
My sympathy to you in the loss of Dr. Criqui. As principal of Central Junior High he hired me for my first teaching job when I graduated from Emporia State. I remember his excellent guidance and leadership.
