ROY AKERS Obituary

Hicks Station - Roy Lynn Akers, son of Roy Franklin Akers and Mary Alice Cotten Akers, was born July 20, 1946 and died January 19, 2013. Growing up in the Hughes, AR community, Roy graduated from Forrest City, AR in 1965. He worked in law enforcement for many years in Crittenden, Cross, and St. Francis counties in Arkansas. After the death of his parents, Roy continued to run the family business, Akers Grocery on US 70 at Hicks Station, AR. Roy was a member of Harrison Street Church of Christ, Batesville, AR. Even in the face of adversity and debilitating illness, Roy never lost his tremendous sense of humor, lust for life and great spirit. He was an inspiration to those who knew him. Roy is survived by his daughters Denise Akers Norden and husband Ed, Paula Akers and companion Donnie Wells, all of Memphis, TN, Melissa Akers Douglas and husband Adam of Palestine, AR, and son Dwayne Akers and wife Tina of Forrest City, AR; sisters Jeanette Akers McCollum of Greasy Corner, AR, Frankie Akers Manus and husband Jesse of Olive Branch, MS and Carol Akers Paterson and husband Don of Cordova, TN. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation is at Roller Citizens Funeral Home, West Memphis, AR on Thursday, January 24 from 6-8 p.m. Services will be at First Baptist Church, Hughes, AR on Friday, January 25 at 1 p.m. followed by internment at Crittenden Memorial Park, Marion AR.
