Thurman Northcross Obituary
Memphis - Thurman Nathanial Northcross, Jr., 70, died June 20, 2019. He was a business manager, owner and consultant. A graduate of Manassas High School, Thurman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Wesleyan University and a Master of Science degree in industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University.
Among Thurman's business enterprises were Stone Creek Corporation, a cleaning supplies company, and Signs First on Poplar Avenue. He worked for the City of Memphis as manager of youth services in the Summer Youth Program. He was also manager of corporate development for the Tennessee Valley Center for Economic Development.
Thurman leaves his son, Cortlandt Northcross; sisters and brother, Rhynette Northcross Hurd (William), Gayle Ortega, and Khalil Rasheed (Elaine); cousins, Deborah Northcross and Dr. Phillip Reginald Northcross; a host of nephews and nieces and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman N. Northcross, Sr. and Verdelle Thomas Northcross; and his brother Theron Reby Northcross.
Thurman's Memorial Tribute will be at 11AM until Noon, Thursday, June 27, 2019, at R S Lewis & Sons Funeral Home Walnut Grove Chapel Memphis, Tennessee. Memorial contributions can be made to Manassas High School or the Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

I met Thurman as a sophomore in high school. He, like all the guys I met at Wesleyan was very respectful of my young, naive self, he and Randy Miller,one of his classmates took me to the movies one night because I was feeling low. I will never forget that and the words of advice he offered me during our brief friendship. Besides having him as a FB friend we never touched base again and I am sorry about that. I was sorry to hear of his passing and at this late date offer my sympathies to his family - evelyn butts elam.

Thurman was a best friend and colleague to my brother Ward DeWitt when they attended Wesleyan University together. I enjoyed meeting him and learning about their antics together. They are both enjoying heaven now. Rest in heavenly peace Thurman.

I met Thurman during my freshman year at Vassar college. He resided in the Black House with my boyfriend and other brothers I grew to know and love. Although we lost touch over the years, I knew of his accomplishments and dedication to service. May he rest in eternal peace and love. And, may his family know that his reach was far, touching many across the country.

I have such fond memories of Thurman. He was a kind person and my first 7th grade crush. Although he was a handsome senior in high school, he never made me feel silly because I was so enamored of him. Popsy, his cousin, was one of my best friends in high school. His Mom was Godmother to my sister Rochelle. The entire family means a great deal to me, and I am so sorry for your loss. May God bless and keep you all during this time.
