Catherine Dickson Obituary

PITTSBURG - Catherine Dickson, 93, of Pittsburg, formerly of Canterbury, died peacefully March 11, 2012 with her loving family by her side.

Born in Boscawen Nov. 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Sabin and Jane (Supry) Guertin. She attended school in Canterbury and Penacook and was a graduate of the Margaret Pillsbury General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1940.

With her husband Richard, they made their home in Canterbury for 37 years, where she served on many town boards and committees. Her interest in the history of Canterbury resulted in a published manuscript of her memories growing up in Canterbury titled, "As I've Heard Tell."

Catherine was also active in many charitable and non-profit organizations.

She and her husband were avid snowmobilers and are considered the founders of the N.H. Sno-Shakers snowmobile club. Catherine served as president of the New Hampshire Snowmobile Association and was active in the Pittsburg Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club. She received national honors from the snowmobile community, including membership in the Iron Dog Brigade, and in 2003 was chosen as "One Who Made A Difference In The First 25 Years Of Snowmobiling" by Snowmobile Magazine. She was also inducted into the Snowmobiling Hall of Fame.

She is survived by two children, Karen Dickson of Pittsburg and George Dickson of Colorado; her daughter-in-law, Kathryn Dickson of Canterbury; nine grandchildren, Keith Lacoy of Virginia, Corey Dickson of Colorado, Mark Dickson of Gilford, Erin Dickson of Alton, Ryan Dickson of Laconia, Lauren Dickson of Concord, Caitlin Carr of Manchester, Jonathan Dickson of Bow and Karen Lee Dickson of Massachusetts; 10 great-grand-children as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years, Richard; her son, Richard Jr.; her great-granddaughter Haley Lacoy; her parents and her brothers, Sabin Guertin and James Guertin.

services: There will be a celebration of her life at the Canterbury Parish Hall, 5 Center Road in Canterbury, at 2 p.m. on Sunday. There will be a similar event for her Pittsburg and snowmobiling friends at the Ridge Runners clubhouse at a date to be determined in June of 2012.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Canterbury United Community Church or a charity of one's choice.
