Mary Peacock Obituary

On October 14 2003 age 98. She earned a degree in music from Meredith College in 1926. She worked for Radio Station WPTF in Raleigh and became the first woman program director of Station WHK in Cleveland OH. In 1937 she married Dr. Arthur B. Peacock. The couple raised their three children in Moorestown NJ. Mrs. Peacock pursued a career as a freelance writer and composer. She was known for her production of original Christmas Musical Plays.
Dr. Peacock died in 1978 and Mrs. Peacock spent the last 18 yrs at Cadbury Retirement Home in Cherry Hill where she was involved in original music productions. Mrs. Peacock founded the Junior Choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown and directed in for 15 years. She was a member of the Moorestown Historical Society an honorary member of the Moorestown Woman's Club member of the American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and is listed in International Who's Who in Music Musician's Directory (1985) and the second edition of International Encyclopedia of Women Composers. She was named the Moorestown Citizen of the Year in 1960.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents The Rev. Dr. Thomas W. O'Kelley and Rosa Meriwether O'Kelley; brothers Thomas and William O'Kelley; and a daughter Diane Peacock Jezic. Survivors include a son A. Kenneth Peacock of Moorestown (Joyce); a daughter Marilyn Burtner of University Heights OH (Hugh); son-in-law Dr. Dragan V. Jezic of Silver Spring MD (Vesna); grandsons Paul Stranahan of Cleveland OH and Andrew Jezic of Silver Spring MD; granddaughters Mary Foti of University Heights OH Tamara Jezic of Washington DC and Diana Peacock of Dallas TX; great grandsons Joseph and Nicholas Foti; and a niece Dorothy Bergin of Bedford MA.
Memorial Service 11am Friday at the First Presbyterian Church 101 Bridgeboro Rd. Moorestown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Music Fund c/o the church. Arrangements by the LEWIS FUNERAL HOME Moorestown.
