Wadsworth Cresse Obituary

Age 55 died December 23 at home after a lengthy illness.
He was the Vice President/Government Banking South Jersey Market for Commerce Bank.
Cresse was a highly successful banker but was equally known for a tireless volunteer spirit. His resume reveals involvement in scores of county charities and organizations topped by his long-standing affiliation with Gloucester County College which he said had a major positive impact in his life. He graduated in 1971 and served his last seventeen years on the college's Foundation Board including a three year stint as president. Chip was a man of many other interests too from being one of the area's top amateur golfers to serving as a flagger at the Bridgeport Speedway. In 1987 he received the Boy Scout 'Man of the Year' award. Cresse's countless civic passions included the Greater Woodbury Chamber of Commerce. He was a chamber director for 26 years and was president in 1984. He served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969. Following his grandfather and his father Chip was also past president of the Rotary Club of Woodbury and was proud of being a Paul Harris Fellow. He also was president of the Exchange Club of Woodbury the Gloucester County Bankers Association South Jersey Bankers Association and golf associations at Pitman and Eagles Nest golf clubs. He was treasurer and and founding director of Glassboro Boys and Girls Club. Other community affiliations past and present as a volunteer director or member included: American Red Cross Emmanuel Cancer Foundation United Way of Gloucester County Southern New Jersey Development Council Glassboro Economic Development Council March of Dimes Walkathon American Legion Post 49 of Pitman South Jersey Baseball Oldtimers Holly Shores Girl Scouts Council Woodbury Main Street Inc. and Underwood-Memorial Hospital Capital Campaign Major Gifts Division.
Cresse graduated from Washington Township High School in its 1966 charter class and from GCC prior to earning political science degrees from Franklin & Marshall College in 1973 and Rutgers University Camden in 1974.
He is survived by his wife Nancy (Jaskowak) a sister Avril Mai Cresse of Turnersville a brother Brinton of Susquehanna Pa. his mother and father-in-law Ruth and Russell Jaskowak of Turnersville a sister-in-law Kathy Jaskowak of Turnersville a niece Jenna O'Brien of Turnersville two nephews Paul and Brinton Lord of Franklin Twp. and a great-niece Jillian Mai O'Brien of Turnersville.
Memorial services are scheduled at 11AM and 3PM on Wednesday Jan. 14 at the Church of the Good Shepherd 315 Highland Terrace Pitman NJ. A visitation with family members will be held between the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wadsworth 'Chip' Cresse Foundation c/o Commerce Bank Woodbury-Glassboro Road Pitman NJ 08071.
Arrangements are being handled by The DAVIS & WAGNER FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES 171 Delaware St. Woodbury NJ.
