I was lucky to have Rod as my boss and mentor just out of law school. He was a fabulous attorney and a wonderful person. He was admired, respected, and cherished. I am so sorry to hear of his passing.

Really nice seeing you last night Alex and Ms Phan. I was saddened by the news that Mr Burkley passed away. I am surely not surprised to see the lovely comments about him here, and this confirms what I experienced in my friendly interactions over the 4 years Alex was at PVHS, that he led a meaningful life and touched many people. My wife, Sue, and I met Rod in the late 1970s when the issue of membership and the waiting list to join the Palos Verdes Tennis Club was In contention. Rod was a member at that time. He spoke to our group, defused the situation and somehow, taked us all into waiting anyway.
I'll never forget how Rod was sympathetic, understood the nuances of our wants and needs, and still held us off.
Over he next decades, Rod and I became friends, tennis partners, and neighbors in the community. Always a positive person, giving of himself at all times, and we will miss him but cherish the memories of our fun together.

To Rods family.I am so grateful to have known Rod. He was one of my favorite people. I am so sorry for your loss. It is our loss as well. When I would finish a project for Rod, he would say "be sure to send me an invoice, and I might even pay it this time". Rod, knowing you was payment enough. I will miss you my friend.

Condolences to Rod's family and friends. I will always admire Rod for his impeccable principles and integrity, not to mention his deadpan humor. He made me laugh every single day for a couple of decades, and will forever do so when i think of him. even in his serious mode he cracked me up because you never knew when he would chuck one out there. Rod is loved and will be dearly missed. RIP
