Lynnette Shelley Obituary

Lynnette Shelley, 36, of Clifton Park, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Ellis Hospital. Lynnette was born October 4, 1972 at St. John's Riverside Hospital to Barbara Ritch and William Shelley. She was raised in Hastings on the Hudson, residing with her grandparents, Harold and Rosemary Ritch. She was schooled in Hastings and attended Hastings High and graduated from Yonkers Prep. She worked several years managing a medical answering service in Dobbs Ferry, NY. In 1995, at the age of 22, a tragic accident rendered Lynnette a quadriplegic. Her life's journey continued when she relocated to Clifton Park, NY where she lived and flourished for 14 years in her own apartment. Lynnette had several friends whose lives were enriched by her quick wit, caring and generous affections. Lynnette's positive outlook and sense of humor made any handicap invisible. She is survived by her aunt, Catherine Getz; cousins, Leigh and Cody Getz, whose memory of times spent with Lynnette cannot be put into words. She will be genuinely missed, especially by those who were inspired by her on a daily basis. She was predeceased by her grandparents, mother, father and Uncle Eddie. Funeral services will be held at the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009. Calling hours will be at the funeral home prior to the service from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2009. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bekkering-Ellis Funeral Home, Inc., 1 Mohawk Avenue, Scotia, NY 12302.

I knew Lynette as a teenager. We shared alot of good & fun times together.
Those days may be over and gone but the memories will remain with my heart for the rest of my life here. Just as Lynette will.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Lynette's friends and family. I also knew her during grade school, and grew up with her. She was always friendly and had a smile for everyone she saw. What a sad loss.

Lynnette was a very dear friend who made my high school years not only bearable but most memorable. I cannot listen to the soundtrack of the Little Mermaid without thinking about her. I miss you my beautiful friend. I love you.

I feel blessed today to have known such a wonderful person. She was a blessing in every way possible. I will miss her smile, her laughter, and her words of advice. My heart goes out to her family. I will pray for her every day and I know one day we will meet again. Lynnette thanks for all of the great times through High School and there after. You are with God flying around with those wings that you so deserve. No more limitations,You are no longer in any pain, and have now reunited with your Parents and Grandparents. My thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. I had the pleasure of knowing Lynette all through grade school and high school. It's hard not to think of Lynette and smile. She was always kind to everyone and always knew the right thing to say to make you laugh.
