Christopher J. Hyslop SchenectadyChristopher (Chris) Hyslop, longtime resident of Schenectady, NY, passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2013 following a brief illness and hospitalization at Ellis Hospital. Born in Pittsfield, MA on October 22, 1944 to Moses and Annie Johnson Hyslop, Chris and family moved to Schenectady in 1950. Chris resided in the family home until moving in 2012 to Schaffer Heights Senior Apartments in Schenectady. Chris was a 1963 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School and following graduation, worked for the Schenectady Public School system for 31 years. In retirement, Chris's passions were many including reading and collecting books about art; American, world and ancient history; travel; sports and science. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved every-day mathematics and conversation with his many friends and acquaintances. He was beloved by those who knew him and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by parents, Moses and Annie Hyslop; and stepmother, Margaret Herrick Hyslop. Christopher is survived by brother, David (Sally) Hyslop of Minneapolis, MN; stepbrother, David (Sharon) Herrick of Westminister, SC; nephew, Alexander (Lawani) Hyslop of Tathra, New South Wales, Australia; and cousins, Lynda (Michael) Benedict of Virginia Beach, VA and Frank (Jeanne) Plemenik of Scotia, NY. Services for Chris will be held on Friday, November 22, 2013 at DeMarco-Stone Funeral Home, 1605 Helderberg Ave., Rotterdam, NY. Visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Chris's memory may be made to Schaffer Heights Housing Corporation, 107 Nott Terrace, Schenectady, NY 12308.
