Robert Baldauf Obituary

Dr. Robert Baldauf, transitioned home to a magnificent party and celebration of his life on April 28, 2016. He will be remembered by his friends, family, many colleagues and patients, and all who knew him as a person of generosity, integrity, wisdom an open heart. He graduated from Guilderland High School in 1973 and Siena College in 1977, earning his bachelor's degree in Biology. He was the director of electron microscopy at Geisinger Medical Center. He graduated second in his class in 1984 from the Pennsylvania College of Foot and Ankle Surgery. Dr. Baldauf led a small remodeling company during his college years. He baffled many at how he balanced schoolwork, electron microscopy, and still graduated at the top of his class. Dr. Baldauf was an active and well respected chair for the Podiatric Medical Association and was Northeastern president during the 90s. In 1987, Dr. Baldauf started his own podiatric practice, which flourished over the years. Dr. Baldauf was well respected by many his colleagues and patients for his excellent skills in the office and in surgery, as well as for his listening ear and wisdom. His hobbies were many. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, scuba diving, marksmanship, archery, and performance sports car driving. He loved to share his interests and talents with others. Deep sea fishing was a favorite. He enjoyed spear fishing off the coast of Massachusetts. He was a member of the Glenville Fish and Game Club; NYS Podiatric Medical Association; Hudson/Champlain Porsche Club of America, Rotary Club of Schenectady and the Albany Country Club. He is survived by his soul mate and fiancée, Dr. Lori Hillman; his children, Chris, Brynna and Geneva Baldauf; his siblings, Timm and his wife, Lynne Baldauf, Bonnie Snyder and her husband, Robert Evans and Richard Baldauf; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Pat Baldauf; and Gram Morgan. A celebration of his life service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 28, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 140 Maple Ave., Altamont, with a reception to follow at the Albany Country Club, Wormer Rd., Guilderland at 1 p.m. Donations may be made in Dr. Baldauf's memory to The Inn at St. Peter's, 315 South Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208 or Wildlife Conservation Society, 2300 Southern Blvd., Bronx, NY 10460 or The Ellis Foundation, 1101 Nott St., Schenectady, NY 12308. I was a patient of Dr. Baldauf for many years. He was a very good doctor and we would have some great talks. I was going to him when my husband, Bob, passed in March of 2010. He would ask how things are and we had nice talks about Bob and my life now. I remember when Dr. Baldauf got sick and could not work. He gave me names of other doctors that did what he did. None of them matched up to him. I will keep him and his family in my prayers.

I was not Dr Baldauf's patient, but I would not have passed up the opportunity to visit with him whenever my wife had an appointment. His personable and professional approach to Podiatry made him unique. He will be greatly missed.

To Dr. Hillman, the children and the family of Dr. Robert Baldauf,

For a period of 20 years beginning in the mid-80's, Bob's skilled intervention supported my quixotic quest for glory running the highways and by-ways of the Capital Region and beyond. Our friendship grew with each succeeding pair of orthopedic inserts that he skillfully crafted for my running shoes.

As everyone knows, Bob was also skilled in both the pursuit and the preparation of wild turkeys. One year I traded him a meal of my homemade lasagna for a meal of his smoked turkey. Although I prided myself on my culinary creation, one bite of that turkey convinced me that I got the better of the deal.

Bob was an absolute delight to be around, and I am deeply saddened by his untimely passing. Please accept my sincere condolences.

I was truly saddened to hear of the passing of my dear friend Robert Bob Baldauf. I met him, his brother Timm, and eventually his fiancée Lori and many other family members through the Porsche Club track days, which goes back a few years. Bob was a Porsche Club driving instructor. We became good friends and shared interests in high-performance track driving, target shooting and the odd cigar. The last time I saw he and Lori was in Arizona when they were visiting family and we got to shoot together at the Scottsdale Gun Club. He was awesome with a pistol. I'll still go to Porsche Club track days. Timm will be there, Markus too but I know this season will be very tough. We will all miss our friend.

I was shocked to see Dr. Baldaufs' picture on the obituary page today. I have been going to him for about 30 years and he will surely be missed. He was always polite and took time to listen to me and he always talked about his fishing experiences.

Robert touched many lives, and will be remembered by those whose lives are the better for it. I am reminded of something I read a long time ago. " A good name(reputation) is to be chosen rather than great wealth, to be respected is better than silver or gold." prov. 22:1 Respectfully. W.M.C.
