Irma DeMarco Obituary

Irma M. DeMarco, 85, of Niskayuna, passed peacefully on Thursday, March, 18, 2021. Born in Schenectady. She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1953 and retired after 40 years as an Executive Secretary at General Electric. Irma was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald DeMarco of 54 years in 2012, and her parents, the late Dominick Tiberio and Antoinette Terrenzio. Irma and Donald were faithful members of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish. Irma interacted with everyone as if they were family, even if it was the first time they met; a testament to her genuine interest in the lives of others. She was an avid fan of Neil Diamond, and had a passion for shopping! She was predeceased by her siblings, Ada (Frank) Salamone, Phillip Tiberio and Lena (Donald) Kaba, as well as her sisters in law, Carolyn DeMarco and Frances Holmstrom. She has two surviving sisters-in-law, Evelyn (late Bernard), Joyce Tiberio, and one surviving brother-in-law, Rodney Holmstrom. Irma was a devoted and beloved aunt to Donnalee (James) Dodson, Michael (Jennifer) Francis, Mary (Todd) Sawler. And like a "great grandmother" to Henry & Theodore Sawler and Norah Francis. Additional nieces and nephews include Thomas (Joyce) Salamone, Mary Jane (late Toby) Tyler, Frank (Marilyn) Salamone Jr., Phil (Gale) Tiberio, Paul (Susan) Tiberio, Christopher (Diane) Tiberio and Susan (Michael) Herrington, David Tessier, Mark Tessier, Dr. Jeffrey Holmstrom, Keith Holmstrom, Beth Ann DeArias, several cousins and great nieces and nephews. She was truly "Everyone's Aunt." A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 27th at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, 1803 Union St. in Niskayuna. Friends and family may also view Irma's Memorial Mass via ZOOM at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/84793864652?pwd=TTgyeWRZdFAzRkNqUTdzY2FYcHIXQT09, Meeting ID: 847 9386 4652, Passcode: 273713. Irma will be laid to rest with her beloved Donald at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. Memorial donations may be made to Joan Nicole Prince Home, 22 Glenview Dr., Scotia, NY 12302. We both loved Neil Diamond and had many good times with Sweet Caroline and Cracklin Rosie. Irma was truly a great person that I’m sure will be missed by everyone who knew her.

To the family and friends of Irma, please accept my sincere condolences. Irma was an incredible lady. She was kind, compassionate and a very giving person. I worked with Irma for many years at GE, and I saw the positive impact that she had on so many people. Her interest in helping others was exceptional. I can still see her smile. May the wonderful memories of her provide some solace during this difficult time.
