MARY PAYNTER Obituary

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Mary Therese "Terry" Paynter was born on February 7, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, to Joseph and Mary (nee Kelly) Power. She died on Friday, January 24, 2014, in Temple, Texas. Terry Paynter's life was characterized by her dedication to helping others, first as one of the amazing young women who joined the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps to answer our nation's call for nurses during World War II. After completing her training at Loyola University School of Nursing in 1947, she served in hospital nurseries in Chicago, Detroit, and Rochester, Minnesota; later, she worked at Leone Dermatology Center, Arlington Heights, and volunteered in Northwest Community Hospital's Eucharistic Ministry. Her first love was creating a home and raising 7 children with her beloved husband of 62 years, as well as entertaining her dear siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends. She lived in Arlington Heights for over 50 years, where she was a devoted neighbor and member of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish. In her retirement, she enjoyed visiting her much-loved children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren from Maine to California. She was gifted with her song, sustained by her faith, proud of her Irish roots, and known by all as truly "kind." Terry is survived by her children, Mary (Robert) Van Milligan of Pownal, Maine, Patricia (Samuel) Snyder of Temple, Texas, John (Bette) Paynter of Carlsbad, California, James Paynter of Amarillo, Texas, Edmond (Wendy) Paynter of Montgomery, Texas, Paul Paynter of Arlington Heights, Illinois, and Thomas Paynter of Urbana, Illinois; her three grandchildren, Samantha (Victor) Rodriguez of McAllen, Texas, Mark (Nicole) Paynter of San Marcos, California, and Dylan Snyder of Temple, Texas; her four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Grace, and Luz Rodriguez, and Emma Paynter; her sisters, Katherine (Robert) McDermott and Joan Power, and her brothers, John Power and Gerald Power. She is preceded in death by her husband, Camen (Jim) Paynter, her sister Margaret McGurn, her brothers Joseph Power and Edmond Power, and her parents. Visitation from 9:00 AM until time of prayers at 10:30 AM, Monday, February 3, 2014, at Glueckert Funeral Home, Ltd., 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road (four blocks south of Palatine Road), Arlington Heights, to Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church, 440 S. Mitchell Ave., Arlington Heights, for Mass at 11:00 AM. Interment is at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine. Memorials may be given to the Miraculous Medal Shrine, 1811 W. Saint Joseph St., Perryville, Missouri 63775.
