Vincent Weidner Obituary

Vincent William Weidner of Mount Prospect The funeral service for Vincent William Weidner will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Grace Lutheran Church, Wolf Road and Euclid Ave., Mount Prospect. Interment will be private in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, 320 W. Central Road (at Northwest Highway), Mount Prospect, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday, at the church. Born Aug. 26, 1952, in Elgin, to Elsie (nee Klages) and Vincent Clarence Weidner, he passed away suddenly Friday, June 26, 2009, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, after collapsing while umpiring a youth softball game. Vince graduated from the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater with a bachelor's degree in business administration. He furthered his education by receiving his master's degree from DePaul University. He was first employed at the Mount Prospect State Bank, where he met his wife, Jeanne M. Brandeau. Upon graduation from college, he worked at a Chicago utility company, where he was in human resources for 30 years. For the last several years, Vince expanded his professional horizons. Vince was an instructor at the Northwest Suburban Driving School, but found pure enjoyment when he became a school bus driver for School District 57. Vince was also a coach, umpire and referee for many local area youth sports organizations. He excelled in everything he pursued. He was "able to move mountains" with his perseverance, determination and dedication to the task at hand. Vince was a devoted and much loved husband for 35 years to Jeanne; loving father of Timothy (Janae) of Yorkville and Sheri of Mount Prospect; loving and doting grandfather of Lilah; and "big brother" to Victoria Hodor-Freeman, Valerie (Mark) Gaylord and Vivian (Tony) Wozniak. He is also survived by his mother, Elsie; and was a loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. Vince was preceded in death by his father, Vincent; his brother, Vance Robert; and his father-in-law, Charles Brandeau. He was a true friend and a wonderful man who lived every moment and touched so many that can't be named. Vince will be remembered as an avid "Sox" fan, the grill master, a detailed planner, an enthusiastic golfer and a true sportsman. All of his spare time was devoted to his family, as he never missed any athletic events and was his children's #1 fan. "He leaves us with fond memories and heavy hearts as he enters into his eternal life." He will surely be missed, but his organs and tissues will continue to help others. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Weidner family for a memorial fund to be established at a later date. For information, 847-255-7800 or www.FriedrichsFH.com.

Dear Weidner Famiy,
Even though time passes and lives take different paths, fond childhood memories never fade. From kickball, Spud, baseball in the backyard (my head still has a lump), to bike rides to Rec Park swimming pool, a kid growing up couldn't have a better friend. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in the family.

Dear Weidner Family,

We’ve had lots of bus drivers but Mr. Vince was our our favorite.
We could talk to him, and that was nice. We were disappointed that we didn’t get to see him on the last day of school because we rode our bikes. But after school, while we sat at Caribou drinking some slurpys we heard his friendly honk and got to give him a big wave.
We will really miss Mr. Vince next year.

Love,

Teddy Reimann and
Caroline Hempleman,

Dear Weidner Family,

Please accept our sincere condolences. "Mr. Vince" as our kids knew him was a wonderful bus driver on the Squirrel bus to Westbrook. He was very kind and and we always knew our kids were in good hands. Our older son loved talking to Vince about the White Sox and he always had a high five ready for our younger son each day. The Squirrel bus will never be the same and he will truly be missed.

Dear Weidner Family,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our son rode the squirrel bus with "Mr. Vince" for 2 years. He was always so kind. We enjoyed having him be apart of our day. When Shane went through a few weeks of wanting to wear his hair spiked up with gel "Mr. Vince" always told him how cool he looked. He would smile at me and we would chuckle about this "Cool dude" phase. Shane loved seeing him everyday. When he missed a day of driving the bus Shane always got off the bus and announced, "Mr. Vince wasn't here today." It was such a comfort knowing Shane was in good hands with him. He will be greatly missed.

The Weidner Family:

Mr. Vince was a great bus driver. I liked him a lot, and I always felt safe when he drove the bus. He always said hi to me and was cheerful. I will miss him

June 30, 2009

The Weidner Family,

My daughter Jennifer loved riding the bus with Vince. She rode for one year in kindergarten and everyday chose to sit in the seat right behind him and talk with him instead of her friends. For the two years following he never missed a wave to me when he drove by if I was out walking. We will miss him.

Dear Jeanne, Sheri and Tim,

We are deeply saddened by the news of Vince passing. He was very instrumental with our girls as a coach and an umpire. He was very fair to all of the players and parents. He was kind and gentle and never forgot a child's name. These traits you can see in his children. May you find comfort knowing you are thought of and prayered for during this tough time.
Our love to you all,

To the Weidner Family,
We are truly heartbroken. Mr. Vince drove our twins to Westbrook last year. I remember him always having a smile and excited to see what our daughter drew for him. He was a very calming person for nervous 6 year olds. They were the first on and always sat up front. The squirrel bus will never be the same.

Dear Weidner Family,
Mr. Vince was such a great man. Alyssa loved having him as her bus driver two years ago when she attended Westbrook and as parents, we knew she was in good hands. One day Alyssa needed to change her shoes and he waited for her at the bus stop! Last year he would honk and wave at us in passing at Fairview. We'll miss him and his warm smile!

To the Weidner family,
We are so sorry to hear that "Mr. Vince" had passed away. My daughter rode his "squirrel" bus for 2 years while at Westbrook School. He made anxious parents calm, while putting their preschooler on the bus for the first time, and made riding the bus a fun and exciting thing for the kids. He also like to "talk" to our dogs as we waited at the bus stop. Even though my daughter is at Fairview now, we would often see his bus and wave to him, and he would always wave back. Our condolences to you and all of your family.

Dear Jeanne, Sheri and Tim:
What a pleasure it was to work with Vince at Westbrook School. He would keep us up to date about his family, his experiences on his bus and with umpiring. It was so evident to us how proud he was of his family and how much he enjoyed working with kids of all ages. Westbrook School has lost a dear and valued member of its family.

Mr Vince has been my sons bus driver the last few years. They just adored him. He would let them off the bus at their stop and let the kids try to run and beat the bus. He also always made a point to know all the kids names and say hi to them at any sporting event he was refereeing. He will be greatly missed.
Thanks for sharing him with us.
