Martha Ann Dunlap

NEWPORT NEWS - Martha Ann Dunlap was born in Tarboro, N.C., on Dec. 18, 1929, to the late William and Martha Knight. She went home to rest April 30, 2004. She was a devoted member of Wesley Grove United Church of Christ for many years, where she served in many auxiliaries until her health started to decline. As a resident of Newport News, she attended Newport News Public Schools and graduated from Huntington High School as her class salutatorian. Her husband, Cleveland Dunlap Sr.; parents, William and Martha Knight; stepfather, Ward Johnson; and grandson, Timothy Adams, all preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her loving and fond memories six sons, Cleveland Jr. (Barbara), Ronald (Vickie), Reginald, William (Terri), and Michael, all of Newport News, Va., and Nathaniel Dunlap of New York, N.Y.; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Fannie Chisolm of Newport News, Va., and Maggie Lawrence of Hampton, Va.; one aunt, Amanda Lloyd of Chambersburg, Pa.; one niece; and a host of cousins and friends. Homegoing celebration will be held 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at Wesley Grove United Church of Christ, Pastor Prince Raney Rivers, officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Viewing will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at O.H. Smith & Son Funeral Home.
