Bertha Challburg Obituary
Bertha Lucille Challburg, 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 30, 2004, in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born Oct. 6, 1921, in Fall River, Mass., to David Albert and Mary Emeila Rose Menard. She was the sister of Leo Menard. During her teens and early 20s, Bertha worked with her mother at Cherry & Webb Department Store in Fall River.
She met her husband, Myron G. Challburg, and married Christmas Eve 1941. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother of seven children, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
As a dedicated member of the Holy Spirit Church, Bertha was a devoted Catholic and very strong in her beliefs. She also served as a member of the Mother¹s Guild.
Bertha¹s love and devotion for her husband, children and grandchildren was her greatest joy in life. As a homemaker for 57 years, she loved to shower her family with her wonderful cooking, baking, sewing and friendship. All of the grandchildren loved her pancakes which no one has been able to duplicate. She was always there to listen and give comfort to those in need. Her beautiful smile will truly be missed by all.
Loving mother of daughter, Beverly Ann Alonzo of Stockton; son, Robert and Patricia Challburg of Vacaville; son, Thomas L. and Debbie Challburg of Fairfield; daughter, Joyce and Frank Dalao of Fairfield; son, Paul and Beverly Challburg of Magalia; son, John Challburg of Fairfield; and son, Mark and Karen Challburg of Vacaville.
Mrs. Challburg was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mary Menard; brother, Leo Menard; and husband, Myron G. Challburg.
The entire family would like to thank all who provided support, care and comfort while she fought her battle with Alzheimer¹s for the past six years.
Friends are invited to attend the visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with rosary service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, at Holy Spirit Church.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Spirit Church. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Catholic Cemetery, 1717 Union Ave.
The family respectfully requests memorial contributions be made to NorthBay Hospice of Fairfield, 1300 Oliver Road, Suite 210, Fairfield, Calif. 94533, 429-7758.
