I had so much fun going to SMU events and sports with Joe, and I have thought of him during the fall when the Ponies start playing. He loved SMU and had many good stories to tell about his days there especially taking Peruna to the Rose Bowl.

Dear Patterson Family,

Joe was a good friend. We had many good times at SMU events. He was one of the most loyal SMU supporters, and he truly loved the school and its traditions.

We will miss him.

Sincerely,

Patsy Curtis Newman

I remember meeting you when you came up to the registration table I was working and announced with bold confidence what your name was. And so I forever remembered your name and never forgot who you were. It didn't hurt that you placed is almost every race you did. You MUST have a stack of trophies and a rack of medals, a testament to your ambitions and zest of life. Good bye. You will be missed. Peace be with you.

Dear Patterson family, I am so sorry to hear of Joe's death. It brings back so many wonderful memories of the years when his dad was our minister at Meadowbrook Methodist in Ft. Worth. I remember Mother Caroline, brothers Jim and Julian, and a cow that Rev. Patterson kept near the parsonage on the south side of East Lancaster during the war. I was about five years younger than Joe, having graduated from Poly in 1949. I believe Jim was a couple of years older and Julian just younger. I am also sorry to read of Jim's passing in the obituary. I am grateful for having known all the family members and their contribution to our church. I have lost track of so many of our old friends.

What a beautiful coincidence with Joe's travels, having graduated from Texas Tech in 1955, married and being hired by General Electric, my wife and I were stationed in Dallas for a few months where we joined the University Park Methodist Church and sang in the choir before heading to New York.

Blessings to you all as you work through this difficult time.
