Jack G. Locke
Newark - Jack G. Locke, 88, of Newark, Delaware passed away on Monday evening, December 14, 2020. Born on November 10, 1932, Jack grew up in Wilmington and graduated from P.S. DuPont High School in 1950. Following graduation, Jack joined the Navy where he served aboard the Tutuila (ARG-4) as Petty Officer in charge of the ship's electrical supply store. Jack served 2 years active duty and an additional 6 years in the Navy reserves. He graduated from the University of Delaware with a BS in Business Administration. Using his experience gained in the Navy, he continued working in the electrical supply industry with Westinghouse, Artcraft Electric, and finishing his career as Regional Sales Manager with Central Moloney Transformer Company.
On September 30, 1956 Jack married the love of his life, Kitty. They lived in Norfolk, Virginia while Jack was in the Navy, then New Castle, and finally took up roots in Newark in 1963, where they raised their loving family. Jack was a man of character and integrity who was always concerned about the well-being of others. He loved to tell stories about his beautiful wife, his family and his friendships that he developed growing up.
He took great pride in his family like no other, and was proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, going to the beach or down the shore to Avalon and Stone Harbor (he was a lifeguard in Wildwood), meeting up with lifelong friends for lunch at his favorite restaurants, going to the Y to workout, watching his Phillies and Eagles, and enjoying spending time with his family.
Jack continued his love of learning, attending the Academy of Lifelong Learning and talked of returning to class as soon as he was able. Jack was a member of Sigmu Nu fraternity, Masonic Lodge, Good News Church, and the P.S. DuPont Class of 1950 Reunion Committee.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kitty (Brant); his daughter, Cindy (Tom); his son, Steve (Mary); grandchildren, Liz and Ryan; nephews, John and Jeff; nieces, Becky and Rebecca. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Thomas and Florence (Forwood); his sister, Kellenia; his brother, Robert.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be a private service. Interment will be at Gracelawn Memorial Park. The family is planning a memorial service to celebrate Jack's life in the Summer of 2021.
