Thomas Capano Obituary

Thomas J. Capano

Thomas J. Capano, age 61, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly in his sleep on the evening of September 19, 2011.

Tommy was a prominent Wilmington attorney who worked in various capacities providing trusted counsel to countless clients throughout the years. Of all his positions held, he was most proud of his work as Wilmington City Solicitor. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and a well-known benefactor to numerous organizations and non-profits in the state of Delaware.

Tom was also known for his impeccable taste: Blasting old classics - the Temptations, the Four Seasons, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, or the Rolling Stones - at full volume while waiting to pick up pizza from Gallucios; allowing his daughters to skip school on their birthdays for a luxurious lunch at the Rodney Square Club; ordering an assortment of mouth-watering seafood from DiNardos with extra Old-Bay seasoning; or insisting his daughters read the Great Books and prominently display them in their homes. Tom was many things to many people, but most of all he was a loving father who will be greatly missed by his daughters.

Tom's four daughters, Christy, Katie, Jenny and Alex, and former wife, Kay Ryan, celebrated his life with close family and friends, including his siblings, Marion and Lee Ramunno, Louis Capano, Joseph and Joanne Capano, Gerry Capano, Michele Jones, and mother Marguerite Capano, as well as many nieces, nephews and close cousins, at a private service on Friday, September 23rd.

Joe, Gerry & Michele and Tom's daughter's, Mother and extended Family and Friends,
My heart felt sympathy to each of you, I'm sure your losses are deeply impacted and felt stronger, in different ways, to each of you. I'm sure each of you have so many fond memories of Tom ( your Dad). That can be shared with each other, especially to his daughters. These good memories will help each of you heal, I hope. I know everything in life take's time. Some things such as a death, we know, take's a very long time, if not forever to try to cope with.
God Bless Each of You, Sincerely,

How ever to capture in our words this man who constantly enchanted us with his. Though a person of many accomplishments and good deeds, those who knew him will best remember him for his most extraordinary generosity, humor and warmth. A charismatic person, he left an indelible mark on whomever he touched. A gentleman, he lived with courage, dignity, and the wisdom of a man far beyond his years. He held onto this life for those he loved so much for as long as he possibly could. And when his death is long past, someone will simply need to say “Tom” and those who knew and loved him will understand all that word will forever mean.

So very sorry for the loss of a father, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
