Howard Jerome Kingshill Age 93 of Wilmington, DE passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, October 29, 2004, after a brief battle with cancer. Howard was born June 11, 1911 in Berlin, Germany. He immigrated to the United States in 1938. Howard proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the 4th infantry division, 29th field artillery battalion. His rank was warrant officer. He participated in the D-Day invasion, the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Europe, earning a Bronze Star. After the war, he worked for Victor Comptometer Corporation in Philadelphia, PA, Akron, OH and Wilmington, DE, holding various sales and management positions with the company. He retired in 1975. After retirement, he continued to work part-time as a school bus driver for the Brandywine School District, and volunteered for the Red Cross. Howard had many passions and activities. His favorite passion was sailing. He was a reserve member of the German national olympic sailing team in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Howard was a lifelong member of the New Castle Sailing Club, where many a Saturday was spent racing on the Delaware River. He even won the club championship at the age of 67. Another passion of Howard's was his love of his lawn and gardening. He was known for having some of the largest tomatoes in Fairfax and would generously share them with whoever came by. Howard was predeceased by his father, Dr. Paul F. Koenigsberger; and his mother, Elsa; as well as his brother; sister; and son-in-law, Paul Andruszkiewicz. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Helen; son, Bruce and his wife, Susan, of Waynesville, NC; daughter, Linda Andruszkiewicz of Queens, NY; and son, Peter and his wife, Barbara, of Bear. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Regan Wyatt and her husband, Brandon, Cameron Kingshill and Ryan Kingshill; and 1 great grandchild, Addison Bailey Wyatt. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to friends and neighbors for all their support. Family and friends may call 6-9 pm Wednesday, November 3rd, at the CHANDLER FUNERAL HOME, 2506 Concord Pike, Wilmington. The funeral service will be 11 am Thursday, November 4th, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear.
