SONJA M. (WAHLL) THOMPSON

COLUMBUS — Sonja M. (Wahll) Thompson, 75, of Hilliard and formerly a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2014 at her home.

She was born Nov. 13, 1938 in Syracuse, New York, daughter of the late Marshall J. and Elsa (Lahti) Wahll.

She was a graduate of Upper Arlington High School and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University. Sonja was a former music teacher for Hilliard City Schools for several years. She then worked as a secretary in the contracts department at Battelle Memorial Institute for over 15 years and retired from the Library Technical Center at The Ohio State University following 10 years of service.

Sonja will be dearly missed by her children, Nicole M. Thompson Cochran (David) Norris, of Delaware, Ohio and Philip A. (Mindy Kral) Thompson, of North Ridgeville, Ohio; granddaughters, Lindsey and Leah Norris; brother, Andrew J. Wahll; "her grandpets," Annie, Iago, Memphis and Nibbles and her beloved cats, Gus and Briar.

She was a devoted mother, sister and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and friends, saving those memories with her camera. Sonja enjoyed to travel, especially to the beach with her friend of over 50 years, Clara Klusty.

A Memorial Service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, Columbus, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. Rev. Every time I saw Sonja at the general staff meetings at the OSU Library Tech Center I would tell her how jealous I was of her comfy no-arm chair she would roll into the meeting with her and she'd laugh. I can't claim to have known her well, but every interaction I'd had with her in her 10 years at OSU was a positive one. A wonderful lady! My deepest condolences to her family and friends.

Bob and I are very sad about Sonja's loss to cancer. We had hoped she would beat it. Even when she was no longer married to Ken, we told her she would always be our sister-in-law. She was always a kind and loving person. Never to be forgotten.

Sonja was an inspiration to me! She was so strong and courageous! she faced a scary and stressful situation with such calm, no complaining or ever self pity. She was so fun to be with and will be greatly missed by her many friends. I loved her and am sad she is gone from the Earth before she got to go on her trip around Lake Michigan.
