RICHARD CORDREY Obituary
SHARPTOWN ? Richard Anthony "Ricky" Cordrey, 32, of Sharptown died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, near Galestown.
Born on Dec. 29, 1978, in Salisbury, he was a son of Ralph A. Cordrey and Jean C. Collins Cordrey of Sharptown.
He was a 1996 graduate of Mardela High School and then graduated from Tulsa Welding School in Tulsa, Okla. At the time of his death, he was employed as a master welder for General Refrigeration in Delmar.
For the past 15 years he had been active with the Sharptown Fire Department. He held the office of trustee for several years, served in the capacity of assistant chief and captain. He was a six year member of the Dive Team, serving as captain for two years, and served on numerous committees including the Carnival Committee and the Carnival Ride Committee. He was a member of Sons of the American Legion, Dor-Wic Post 218, in Sharptown.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Reade A. Cordrey and his wife, Monika, of Mannheim, Germany, and Ryan Cordrey and wife, Cate, of Salisbury; a sister, Rae E. Murphy and her husband, Michael, of Mardela Springs; several nieces and nephews, Cole Owens, Luke Murphy, Ty Murphy, Taylor Cordrey, Jamie Cordrey and Vanessa Hartlieb; his paternal grandmother, Verna Cordrey of Sharptown; an aunt, Sandra C. Henry and her husband, George, of Sharptown; two uncles, Brad Cordrey and his wife, Lori, of Delmar and Donald Collins of Rochester, N.H.; several cousins and extended family in New Hampshire; a special friend, Laura Bacon Owens, and her children, Elaina and Luke Owens of Riverton.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-9 p.m. at Sharptown Firemen's Memorial Building, 405 Joe Morgan Road. Funeral services will be held Friday at noon at Sharptown Firemen's Memorial Building, where friends will be received one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jim Penuel III and Pastor Steve Willing will officiate. Interment will follow in Sharptown Firemen's Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made in memory of Ricky to Sharptown Fire Department Dive Team, PO Box 307, Sharptown, Md. 21861.
Zeller Funeral Home in East New Market is handling the arrangements.

The most precious memory I have of Ricky is when my daughter cut her foot at Rae's wedding (after knocking over a glass vase no less). I was caught in a moment of not being sure what to do. Ricky grabbed her up, took her to the kitchen, made her laugh and fixed her right up. I'm pretty sure she fell in love with him on the spot.
