June Caplinger Obituary
June MacDonald Caplinger, 88 was received into heaven by her Lord and Savior on Sunday January 24, 2021. She was born on June 8, 1932 in Glasgow, Scotland to Allan and Johan MacDonald. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Ronald MacDonald, John MacDonald and Donald MacDonald and her sister Elizabeth MacDonald, her husband Okey William Caplinger, her youngest daughter Sharon (Caplinger) Boomsma, son-in-law Tom Boomsma, and two grandchildren Owen and Chelsea Boomsma.
June grew up in her beautiful Scotland where she graduated high school and went on to nursing school. She met her husband in Glasgow while he was stationed there with the United States Army Air Corp. and married in 1952 and later came to live in the United States. After the death of her husband, she answered the call to missions, first in the Volunteer Missions Corp and then later as a fully commissioned missionary with the International Missions Board. She served in Scotland, Michigan, Chile, and Equador before retiring in Denton, TX near her oldest daughter.
June was a devout Christian and an active member of her beloved Adult III Bible Study class at Southmont Baptist Church in Denton, TX. She served on various committees, leading in ladies' Bible studies, delivering flowers to shut in members and working with a group of ladies in making dresses for young girls in third world countries plus many other volunteer opportunities.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Colbert, son-in-law Jim Colbert, grandchildren Lisa Colbert, Todd Colbert and wife Stacie, Keri (Colbert) Piekarski and husband Scott, great grandchildren Bobby Barrera, Christian Barrera, Nikolas Barrera, Kayleigh Piekarski, Courtney Piekarski, Marley Colbert, Christopher Colbert, and nephews Allan MacDonald and Iain MacDonald.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, March 20 at 11:00am at Southmont Baptist Church in Denton Texas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations may be sent in the memory of June Caplinger to the IMB (International Mission Board) 3806 Monument Avenue, Richmond Virginia, 23230

She was my Godmother when I was a young girl and I've just recently thought about her. It must've been a sign she is at peace with the Lord in heaven. I can't remember much more than how she loved reading and tea. She used to roll her tongue with the letter r when she said the word girl. She joined my mom and I on a visit to Houghton, Michigan for ice statues and huge cinnamon rolls. I know my parents asked her to be my godmother for a good reason and though we never kept in touch, I know she was a wonderful person. I knew her in the late 70s and maybe early 80s.
