Jack Weir, 96, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2025 in Denton, Texas. He was born Jack Reynolds Reierson on December 8, 1928 in Athens, Texas to Jack R. Reierson, Jr. and Gladys Reynolds Reierson. After his father's death when Jack was a toddler, his mother married Colonel Roy I. Weir, Jr., who adopted Jack and loved him as his own, as did the entire Weir family.
Jack spent his early years in Athens and Malakoff, before moving to San Antonio as a teenager, when his father was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. He graduated from Jefferson High School in San Antonio and from Baylor University in Waco, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a commission as Second Lieutenant through the Air Force ROTC program. He took a short break during his years at Baylor to live in Tokyo when his father was stationed there during the Occupation of Japan after World War II ended.
A Korean war veteran, Jack served two years active duty in the Air Proving Ground Command at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida and was honorably discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. He then served six years in the Air Force Reserve. He married the love of his life, Judy Ann Javens, on August 27, 1960 in Dallas.
Jack had a long career at Moore Business Forms and Systems, from 1955 to 1991, first as a salesman in Dallas and Fort Worth, and then as a Sales Control Manager in Denton. In retirement, he worked at the Federal Emergency Management Agency call center in Denton, and he served on the Denton County Appraisal Review Board and the Denton City Council's Community Development Advisory Committee. He volunteered with Meals on Wheels and as a receptionist at First United Methodist Church of Denton.
A long-time resident of Denton, Jack was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 60 years and its Searchers Sunday School Class. He was an avid fan of Baylor Bears sports, the Dallas Cowboys, and college football in general. He enjoyed playing tennis and golf, antique cars, the New York Times crossword puzzles, and reading in his spare time. He was a kind, thoughtful, and patient husband and father. He had a funny, dry sense of humor and was a quiet soul, yet a wonderful cheerleader in supporting his family's interests and activities. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judy Weir of Denton; daughter Lisa "Stella" Weir of Austin; daughter Dana Crandall and husband Keith of Bartonville; brother-in-law Jim Javens of Belton; two nieces and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws Jack and Edith Javens; brother-in-law Dick Javens; sister-in-law Dora Javens; and son-in-law Chad Himmel.
A memorial service will be held in Cole Chapel at First United Methodist Church in Denton on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
