Benjamin HirschMcShane Obituary

Benjamin Hirsch-McShane, 35, was a dedicated, fun-loving, happy man. Easy to smile, his zest for life and sense of adventure was palpable, if not outright infectious. Whether it be his love for surfing, yoga, climbing, or music, he was passionate. On January 25, 2019, while on a challenging and adventurous ski trip, Ben made his last summit. He died unexpectedly and suddenly in an avalanche that day, doing one of the things he loved most. His interest in skiing took him to many beloved destinations including Chamonix, France; Beaver Creek, Utah; and North Lake Tahoe, California. Ben was born April 19, 1983 and raised in Denver, CO. While still in college at the University of Colorado, Ben began his career in money management at a small Denver based firm, Independence Capital Asset Partners. After a few years, he joined a large San Francisco based firm: Passport Capital. While there, Ben was involved with many overseas investment opportunities, of which took him to the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and India. After several successful years in business, he took some time off from work and traveled the world with his future bride, Sarah Williams. Since then, Ben spent a brief time consulting and with a start up, but then returned to money management and worked at Ibex Investors. Ben has many passions and interests, and all agree he cared most about his wife, Sarah McShane. When they traveled the world, the two visited no less than 18 countries and fell in love in all of them including Italy, Vietnam, Japan, and Colombia. They found themselves in the dusty desert of Black Rock City, riding bikes through burning man, and later married on a white sand beach during a memorable ceremony in Tulum, Mexico. Ben was known as a loving husband, the passionate ring leader among his six siblings, and an ever doting son. He will be fondly remembered by his wife, Sarah Williams McShane; Father and Stepmother E. Mac (Cynthia Calvin) McShane; Mother and Stepfather, Judith (Jim) Hirsch Walker; Siblings, Elizabeth, Rob, Peter, Carson, Bailey, and Ellie Walker. A Celebration of Life in memory of Ben will be held on Thursday, January 31 at 2:0 0 P.M. Glenmoor Country Club 110 Glenmoor Drive, Cherry Hills Village, CO 80113 The family suggests memorial contributions to GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/supporting-sarah-mcshane-in-remembrance-of-ben

For Those Who Loved Ben...
I never had the privilege of knowing Ben. Rather, I knew of him through Cynthia and Mac, coaching colleagues at CCL. Please know that my heart and love are with you as you travel this unimaginable journey of loss.

Even from the articles, the joie de vivre and passion of this beautiful person, Ben---just leapt out. His light so bright! I could feel his hunger for the next adventure. With his beloved. With friends. With nature. With that passion for everything. I wish I could wrap my arms around you all---known and unknown to me. To share a big sense of how very many of us stand by to support you. To help you journey on now...without this beloved guy.

With tears in my eyes for a beautiful human I never had the chance to meet----but who even now, is touching me deeply. With love for you all. Wishing you courage and hope and togetherness. May the memories of the gift Ben was to this world live on...forever.

Peace,
Lynn Young
