Robert Hasenyager Obituary

Some people don't believe in HEROES, but they haven't met my Dad. Bob Hasenyager passed away at home after waging a 14-month battle with renal cell carcinoma. Bob was the son of Clarence and Lois Hasenyager. He married Marlene J Minchey on April 17, 1976 and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the San Diego Temple December 8, 2012. Bob was especially proud of his two daughters, Kimber (Jayson) Scopel and Whitney Hasenyager, Rancho Cucamonga, CA and his grandson, Braxton Oliver Scopel.
Bob grew up in Illinois, but was a Utahn at heart. After graduating from Princeton High School, Bob spent the summer working for the US Forest Service in Kanosh, Utah. That led to a basketball scholarship at Dixie College. Knowing he wanted to pursue a career protecting wildlife and nature, Bob graduated with a Wildlife degree from Utah State University in 1975. Upon graduating from USU, he began his 35 year career working for the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources. He received his MBA from USU in 1988. He created UWIN, Utah Wildlife In Need, a Foundation whose purpose is to perpetuate wildlife species and natural places for future generations including the Great Salt Lake Nature Center at Farmington Bay.
Bob had many talents. One that he loved so much was coaching basketball. Bob coached many Jr. Jazz teams and competition teams that his daughters played on, Young Men's LDS Church basketball teams, and the Viewmont High School Girls' Basketball Team in 2010. Through this, he touched the lives of MANY young people including his own daughters. He loved being Coach Bob!! He was also a skilled wood-worker and handyman. His daughter Whitney recognized at an early age his talent, when she said, "Don't worry Dad will fix it." He had many happy moments working in his woodworking workshop.
Bob was an example of honesty, patience, fairness, and treating others with respect. He was an example of service, having served the community he called home as co-chair of Festival Days, Planning Commission member, and City Councilman. Bob loved fishing anywhere but especially Lake Powell, hiking, camping, and his family!!
Bob is survived by his wife, Marlene, his 2 daughters and his grandson, Braxton. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Steve Pillischafske.
Bob's family would like to thank Dr. Junfeng Wang and the nurses at Huntsman Cancer Hospital for helping Bob fight the fight against cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the Farmington Utah South Stake Center, 695 South 200 East. Friends and family may visit Friday, between 6 and 8 pm, at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington, or Saturday, 9:30 to 10:30 am, at the church. Interment will be at the Farmington City Cemetery. Online guestbook at www.russonmortuary.com

It doesnt seem possible that 6 years have already passed since Bob passed on.

He is still mentioned, with respect and appreciation, in my group of friends and acquaintances that worked (volunteered) with and for Bob by assisting Wildlife Resources with their mission of conserving and preserving wildlife habitat and species for the present and future generations. Bob was truly dedicated to this mission, as well as to his outstanding wife, Marlene, and children. He continues to be remembered and commended. May he Rest In Peace.....

Marlene, We just returned from our trip to Tahiti. Jon told of the passing of Bob. we deeply regret that we weren't here to support you in your loss. I tried to get ahold of you before we left(4/7) but I couldn't find a phone number for you. We were so pleased to hear of his baptism and your Temple sealing. Those promises make it easier to bear the loss and temporary separation. We will come to visit you soon.... Dick & Ann Casper

My son, Elder Parker Mecham told me about Bob's baptism last year. He also wrote me last month to tell me that Bob's family had been sealed in the Temple. When I heard from my son today, he told me that Bob had passed away and how sad he was. My prayers go out to your family. I heard a quote that I think of whenever I miss my boy (he's been on his mission for 14 months now).
A missionary is someone who leaves their family for a short time so that others can be with their families for Eternity.
sending love and prayers your way,

It was my honor to know and work with Bob, on Utah prairie dogs and more recently, on Sage Grouse. He was a great and dedicated wildlife professional. I especially recall his love for his family and wife. As Bob Benton, USFWS, and I would pile into the back of the DWR vehicle to head back to SLC from the Bryce Canyon p.dog meetings, Bob would slip behind the wheel and announce to all of us, "By 6pm I plan to be home, kissing my wife."
Later, he reveled in telling me about trying to keep up with Marlene while hiking in the Grand Canyon. Thanks, Bob, for all of your inspiration and your hard work on behalf of wildlife.

Childhood friends are a unique group. You don't always keep up with each other but when you see each other again the catching up is easy. This is how it always was with Bob. And he rarely missed a reunion with his old classmates in Princeton.

We are profoundly sad for your loss and wish you every comfort possible.

More people have posted their thoughts and sympathies on Facebook PHS Class of 1970 Princeton IL. Bob will forever be one of us...a Princeton Tiger.

To: Marlene, Kimber, Whitney, & All of the Hasenyager Family Members

Bob was truly a great man. All of us friends & associates were privileged to know & learn from him. You were fortunate to have him as your husband, father, or relative; and he was so proud of you.

I thoroughly enjoyed working, socializing, and recreating (mostly hunting & fishing, etc.) with him during the past decade plus. I also quickly bonded with him in the arenas of wildlife conservation & wildlife management – as he practiced and radiated a Utah & Wildlife Resources translated version of the “duty, honor, country” theme, motto, & dedication that was ingrained in me throughout my military career.

In social and recreational activities he was always optimistic, upbeat, enthusiastic, light hearted, competent, inquisitive, and a whole host of other positive descriptive characteristics. He was also just fun to be with. At work & in the community, he had developed the ability to envision a goal, to define & communicate the need, and the ability to bring others into the vision.

Most of all, I related to his “service above self” nature and principles. I witnessed him giving, and giving, to family, community, wildlife, worthy causes and organizations, and to our publics and citizens in so many different situations, times, and examples. An important measure of a man's life is what he contributes to society, family, acquaintances, and fellow citizens; Bob scores at the top in all of these areas.

Thank you for sharing a slice of his time with me – & with so many others.

Marlene,
I have often said that I am a better person for knowing and working for Bob Hasenyager. His City Council sign read "Tall On Service" and I observed and learned from this service at many times, in many ways. I unite my thoughts and prayers with the countless others who pray for peace and comfort for your family.

Marlene
I am deeply saddened to learn that my friend and colleague has passed. My heart goes out to you and the girls. Bob and I had a unique relationship. We usually wanted the same thing but differed in our approach in accomplishing it, and at the same time, respected each others approach. May God bless you and your family.

Mrs. Hasenyager,
I express sympathy with the passing of your husband. My Mom sent me the obituary and I'm very sorry to hear the news. I was one of your many students and fans at Woods Cross High, more than 20 years ago. I have good memories of being in your class, along with my twin sister, Mindy and friend, Maquel Smith. You stand out in my mind as such a nice teacher and wonderful person. Thanks for your kind influence. Congratulations on your temple sealing. Love, Marcey Sonntag Humpherys

Marlene and Family,

I was saddened to hear of Bob's passing. I have many fond memories of working with Bob going back to 1978 when we were both part of the newly formed Non-game Section. One of my best memories however was just a few years ago when we spent an entire day in my boat at Lake Powell fishing for bass. We had a great time that day and that was where the idea for a Utah wildlife foundation began. I'm sorry I can't make it to the funeral. I will be in Seattle for my granddaughters baptism. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Marlene and Girls,

I worked with Bob for a number of years. Although I worked for the Division of State Parks and he for the Divison of Wildlife Resources we had a number of opportunties to work together. We were also able to spend some time recreating with Courtland Nelson, who was my boss at the time.

Bob was a great person to work with and a good friend. I appreciate all the things he did while at the Divison of Wildife Resources but more improtantly, I greatly admired him as a person and his committment to protecting Utah's wildlife and special places.

He will be missed but never forgotten by all who new and worked with him.

I had not seen Bob since we graduated from High School some 43 odd years ago. We were friends in high school but not especially close. I do remember Bob as a kind gentle person who loved to play basketball and got along with everyone. He was serious on the court but had a smile whenever you interacted with him. His death saddens me. It appears Bob continued to have a profound effect on the people around him after leaving Princeton. His love for the environment has inspired me. Bob, you are in my thoughts
