Paul Hofmeyer Obituary

Paul Kenneth Hofmeyer

Iowa City

Paul Kenneth Hofmeyer, 42, was born in Des Moines, IA on January 12, 1972, to Ken and Eunice Hofmeyer. Paul graduated from Urbandale High School in 1990; received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Alabama - Huntsville in 1995; and earned his MBA from the University of Iowa in 2002.

Paul was a devoted husband and father, and was committed to his faith. Paul and Stacy Thompson, M.D., were married in 2007 and were very active in the Iowa City community. Along with Stacy, his children Matthew and Katie were the center of his universe. They had a great time skiing and traveling to multiple places in the U.S. Paul and Stacy were members of the Good News Bible Church in Iowa City. Whatever the setting or the challenge at hand, Paul was always ready to help.

Throughout his career, Paul developed significant expertise in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles and utilized his training in various organizations, including Caterpillar Corp., Pella Corp., Terex Corp., Clipper Windpower, and most recently, Rockwell Collins, where he leveraged his engineering skills, Six Sigma training and love of aviation. Paul's passion for flying was evidenced in the joy of taking friends, family and co-workers up in the skies and serving on the board of the Iowa City Municipal Airport.

Paul and Stacy went to heaven together on April 11, 2014. Paul is survived by his children, Matthew, 14, and Katie, 10, Pocahontas, IA; mother, Eunice Hofmeyer, Urbandale, IA; sister, Theresa (Keith) Touchton, West Des Moines, IA; brothers, Tim (Robyn) Hofmeyer, Moseley, VA; and John (Gabriela) Hofmeyer, San Francisco, CA; seven nieces and nephews and many relatives and friends. Paul was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth John Hofmeyer.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel in West Des Moines with burial at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to the Paul Hofmeyer Memorial Fund in care of Wells Fargo, 655 S. 50th St., West Des Moines, IA 50265.
