I was so happy to receive this reminder of our dear friends, Herb and Muriel! Every word in the obituary brings back wonderful memories. I can´t tame a long distance car trip without recalling our long trips together listening to and singing the folk songs from our past. Young folks today have very little idea of their impact. And bridge??? A wonderful player indeed. We learned so much.
I´m sorry there won´t be a similar legacy reminder of Muriel. I know only that she has also died.
Greetings to their very talented children and grandchildren. Had they lived, I´m sure they woul be enjoying greatgrands today.

Hey Herb it´s done here! And as Milton Erickson responded saying, "my voice goes with you" and by that I mean your voice goes with me and it´s not the same as being with you directly. See you in the hereafter.
Love

Herb's (and Muriel's!) founding Community Telephone Counseling , Inc ( CTC) was, in my way of thinking, his way of bringing to the Des Moines area a little bit of the spirit of The Academy of Psychotherapy (AAP) which both he and Muriel were/are lifelong active members.
CTC was not only the premiere 'Hot Line' (Crisis Line, Drug Line) in this country . I know as I did my dissertation on CTC...with Herb's help! He and all the many telephone counsellors helped many people in Des Moines..me being one of them!

Herb, There is and will never be someone like you! You helped to shape so many people in your years at CTC.
Muriel, My heart goes out to you.

Herb was a fine Psychologist and psychotherapist. He made many lasting contributions to the Iowa Psychological association and the City of Des Moines. He was a very decent human being whose friendship I greatly valued.

Long after his official retirement in Des Moines, Herb continued his professional contacts and work. A distinct impression of him working diligently in his home office on the newsletters he produced remains with me. His mind frequently worked far beyond what the word processor program could do. His frustration with technology appealed to his troubleshooting and problem solving abilities. He set about to solve, and the majority of time, he did!
Herb was a brilliant man in addition to his skills for working with people and to his ability to find fun and laughter in life.
One final memory is a drive on Hwy 1 from San Francisco to Oregon. Most of the way we listened to his Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie CDs. Young people today do not realize the power of that music. Herb would have loved to see it resurrected.
I'll miss him!
