MEMORIALS: John Richardson's family asks that contributions be made to Key School Planting Seeds Capital Campaign in support of the Key Center for Learning Differences, John M. Richardson Campus, 3947 E Loop 820 S., 76119, KCLD.org ; The WARM Place, 809 Lipscomb St., Fort Worth, Texas 76104, www.thewarmplace.org/ways-to-give/; Catholic Charities for Fort Worth, P.O. Box 15610 Fort Worth, Texas 76119, www.catholiccharitiesfortworth.org/donate/. John Richardson was born in Fort Worth, Texas on November 19, 1930 to Dr. James Joseph Richardson and Margaret Tidwell Richardson. John was a 1948 graduate of R. L. Paschal High School where he managed the basketball team under Charlie Turner. There he met his future wife, Joan Webb. While serving in the U.S. Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, John discovered his love of medicine. After his Naval service, John graduated from Texas Wesleyan College, earned his medical degree from the University of Texas, Southwestern Medical Branch, and completed his pediatric residency at the Children's Medical Center of Dallas. Dr. Richardson practiced pediatric medicine in Fort Worth for over 40 years. John served as the medical director for many organizations, including the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Lena Pope Home, and St. Andrew's Catholic School. He served on the Board of Directors of Cook Children's Medical Center, the Fort Worth Zoo Association, the Alliance for Children, the Gill Children's Services, and the Catholic Charities Diocese of Fort Worth. John was honored for his humanitarian and medical services, receiving the Gold Headed Cane Award and the Humanitarian Award from the Tarrant County Medical Society, the Golden Deeds Award, Fort Worth's Outstanding Citizen from the Exchange Club, and the Congressional Angels in Adoption Award. Dr. Richardson was the pediatrician for the Edna Gladney Home for 29 years, participating in approximately 9,000 adoptions. He co-founded the WARM Place, a haven for children and their families after the death of a loved one, which has served over 38,000 children and families. He also initiated the Texas Safe Haven Law for abandoned babies, known as the Baby Moses Project, the first of its kind in the nation. Safe Haven laws have saved the lives of over 4,000 children. He co-founded the Key School for children with learning differences and was the first male docent of the Amon Carter Museum. John's personal passion was the art and history of the American Southwest, specifically, works on paper and folk art. His family will always remember his passion for baseball, his quick wit, and his generous and genuine spirit. Through discerning conversations with close friends and his relationship to the Catholic Church, John taught others to be humble and kind. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his two sisters, Mary Helen and Peggy, and three brothers, Joe, Dick, and Bob. SURVIVORS: John is survived by his children, Kathy Richardson, Marian Richardson, John Richardson, Jr. and wife, Carol, and Jane Richardson and wife, Tammy; grandchildren, Elizabeth Peterson and husband, Daniel, Andrew Palmer and wife, Lisa, Philip Palmer, Gregory Daiker, and wife, Annie, Samuel Daiker, Abigail Daiker, Harry Daiker, Jack Daiker, Caroline Richardson, Marshall Richardson, Natalie Richardson, Matthew Floyd; and great-grandchildren, Charlie Joann, Archer, Cedar, Emerson, Meadow, Felix, and Arthur.

We live out of state and just learned of Dr. Richardson's passing. He was our sons' doctor while we lived in TX, and we also knew him because we worked at the Zoo. I cannot express how highly we thought of him. He was such a kind and generous man, a true pioneer in child advocacy, and a delight to just to be around. He will be dearly missed.

What a wonderful doctor and stellar human being. He was always there when I needed him as a young single mother helping me more then I even realized I needed. He was responsible for saving my daughters life on more then one occasion and even made certain that I got the special formula sent to me by the case that was essential for her that I could have never been able to afford. How blessed we all were to have had our lives touched by this man. Sending prayers of peace and comfort to the entire family.

Dr. Richardson has touched the lives of innumerable children and parents. He practiced medicine with the utmost integrity, and his compassion for his patients was truly heartfelt. They don't really make them like him anymore; he is a cornerstone of pediatrics in Tarrant County.

Dr. Richardson was such a kind and gentle doctor. I'm 47, and I still remember him fondly as my pediatrician. It's so important for children to have a positive, honest, warm first experience with their doctor. It makes a lasting impression. He was a good man who will be missed. Blessings for his family in their mourning and Rest In Peace, Dear Doctor

Dr. Richardson was such a patient, kind and caring doctor. He could diagnose a problem and give you just the right medicine or treatment every time. He was so patient with a first time mother that didn't know what to do. He changed so many lives. This world would be a better place with more people like him!

Suddenly, the world has become much colder and less compassionate. He was a highly-respected pediatrician who had a particular expertise in allaying the fears of worried young mothers. An extraordinary man who gifted us all with an even more extraordinary legacy. Thank you, and God's speed, Doctor John.

Dr. Richardson was my pediatrician, my sons pediatrician, as well as many of my family members and friends. I remember as being so very kind....well... He did give me a hard time when he had to come all the way out to Harris SW when my son was born....called it the hospital out in the prairie. But he was the best!
I'm so sorry for your loss...I pray his family peace during this difficult time. The world has lost one of a kind.

Dr. John,(as I always called him as a kid), was my favorite doctor as of yet. He treated me with as much respect as I could've asked for. I was so glad to be a patient of his, and at the time didn't know how lucky I was to have him as my pediatrician. Rest in Peace Dr John

R.I.P. Dr. John Richardson. I first met you in 1974 when my daughter Kristi was born. Wonderful Dr and Advisor. Thank you for your patience as you explained the childhood disease, scarlet fever. Thank you for taking care of my child until the age of 14. May your family find comfort in knowing that you rest with the Angels in Heaven.

I was so sad to hear of Dr. Richardson passing. He was a HUGE part of my family's life over 40 years as my siblings and I pediatrician and then my kids pediatrician. A doctor that gave you his home number and was always there for everyone. I'm so glad I continued to see him as I volunteered at The WARM Place. The world definitely lost an amazing doctor and man who we will never ever forget. I will always remember all the times he was there for us. He was truly a wonderful contributor to Fort Worth and my family. I could go on and on about all the wonderful things he has done, he definitely left a huge legacy and this world is a better place because of him. I have you all in my thoughts and prayers ~much love from some of your babies ❤

Dr. Richardson was one of the best pediatricians ever. He was mine over 45 years ago and my children. He's will be greatly missed!

John Richardson was a heroic pediatrician who leaves behind such important legacies that touch the lives of the most vulnerable among us. He was a force behind the founding of The Warm Place which provides bereavement support to children who have lost a parent or a sibling. He spearheaded the establishment of the first Baby Moses law in the US here in the state of Texas which provides a safe haven for babies who would otherwise be abandoned.

We all should be grateful for John Richardson!

So sad. I will miss him. He was my favorite doctor. His voice was so soothing and one time he even saw me on his day off after my mom thought I was infected with a disease but it turned out I just had aN ear infection. I will miss him so much.

Dr. Richardson was a doctor's doctor. We will not see the likes of him again, thanks to the pressures of managed care. He knew children, and he understood parents. We were fortunate to raise three of his patients. Blessings to his family.

Both Dr. John and Joan were the personification of kindness and humility. It was a privilege to know them, work with them, laugh with them. The world is a better place because they were here. Peace and prayers to the family.
