Virginia Korf-Melton Obituary

DODGE CITY - Virginia Lee Korf-Melton, 91, died Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at her home in Dodge City.
She was born February 6, 1927, the daughter of Carl and Ina Irene (Gilmore) Thomas. She attended cosmetology school and owned and operated gift shops in Montezuma and Copeland and Designs By Virginia in Dodge City as well as Happy Trails Flea Market. At the age of 80, she graduated high school from Ingalls High School.
She was a member of the Ingalls Federated Church and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Dodge City. She was also a Lifetime Member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Dodge City
On August 29, 1944 she married Jim Korf at Garden City. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2008. On June 12, 2010 she married Don Melton at Dodge City.
Survivors include: her husband, Don, Dodge City; 3 sons, James Korf and wife Gail, Colorado City, Colorado, Bill Korf and wife Mary, Canon City, Colorado and Cliff Korf and wife Lavetta, Firth, Nebraska; 3 daughters, Ina Smith, Penrose, Colorado, Dinah Eden and husband Rob, Caney, Kansas and Nina Nash and husband Vaughn, Dodge City; 2 brothers, Art Thomas and wife Mary Lou, Las Vegas, Nevada, Frank Thomas, Dallas Texas; 1 sister, Pat Culver, Bucklin; 3 step children, David Melton and wife Leticia, Dodge City, Dwight Melton and wife Rose, Goddard, Kansas, Donna Crawmer and husband Doug, Manhattan, Kansas; a foster son, Ernie Bigelow and wife Janice, Gordon, Nebraska; 19 Grandchildren; 44 Great Grandchildren; and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; 60 step-grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 2 granddaughters, 1 great great granddaughter, 3 sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law and a son-in-law .
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Dodge City with Pastor Corky Spitzer officiating. Burial will follow in Cimarron Cemetery, Cimarron. Visitation will from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Friday with family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Christ the King Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Prairie all in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801. Condolences may be sent to www.zieglerfuneralchapel.com.

Virginia was a great lady. She was always a joy to talk to and loved the Lord and her family. She will be greatly missed. Don, Nina, Cliff and other family, we will be praying for you as you adjust to this new life.
