Mary Cecelia LaQuier, 65, of Duluth, died Sunday, October 19, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital. She was born October 28, 1938, in Cannon Ball, N.D. to Rufus and Cecelia (Martin) Ireland. Mary graduated from college in Chamberlin, N.D. She was a member of the Standing Rock Sioux and was a traditional Indian Elder active in Indian Politics. Mary was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Audrey Blackhoop; brother, Mike Martin; and a daughter, Deborah Ireland. Mary is survived by her husband, Donald, of Duluth; daughters, Rosetta Badhand of Tempe, Ariz., Donna Amparan of Duluth, and Victoria LaQuier of Duluth; sons, Steve LaQuier of Minneapolis, Mark LaQuier of Minneapolis and William LaQuier of Duluth; brother, Duane Martin of Cannon Ball, N.D.; sister, Delphine Plentychief of Cannon Ball, N.D.; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. VISITATION: 12 noon Tuesday, October 21, 2003, until Thursday at 3 p.m. in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior Street in Duluth. Services entrusted to the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 218-624-5200.
