I have three short memories: 1. I interviewed Blaine when he first appeared on campus, looking to fill a spot alongside me in the government department at EPCC. He asked where his wife, Nancy, might apply for a job in El Paso. I said that she should apply at EPCC. She did, she got a position, and worked at high levels of administration for many years. 2. It was a joy to work with Blaine on winning a change in Texas law related to bond issues in Texas, a change that was highly favorable for EPCC. 3. When Blaine moved from being a faculty colleague to being my campus dean, he summoned me to his office to discuss my controversial teaching style when it came to race relations. He was having to explain to complaining students that he and I felt the same way about justice and fairness for people of all races and that we needed to be frank in discussing the issue in classes. Blaine became my hero. Leon Blevins

I didn't know know Blaine well, but judging from who his mom was, he was a gem!

I was the first faculty member to interview and recommend Blaine for employment at EPCC. After only a few minutes into the meeting I knew that he would be a great colleague. Soon, his wife Nancy also began working with us at the college in administrative roles. We had many decades of productive and joyful work together. Blaine truly made the college and the community wonderful places to live and work.
He was our leader in getting a bond issue passed that to this day financially supports the work of the college. In many areas, he kept us "calm, cool, and collected." I truly loved him as a friend and colleague. Leon Blevins

Blaine was a great colleague, delightful conversationalist, and had a great sense of humor. He was one of the original old timers at EPCC who was a true pillar of the college both as an administrator and instructor. He and his wife Nancy were also very progressive in their views and were great to be around. I send the whole family my sincerest condolences.

May God give you peace and comfort. "Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. Unseen unheard but always near. Still loved still missed and very dear."

I'm so sorry to hear that. I'm so glad I got to meet and spend time with Grace, Eric, Blaine, and their families. As I told Grace, if I had never met her, but only her sons, I would have to conclude that she must be a wonderful person.

Blaine was a deeply compassionate man who always looked for the good in people. I will never forget his calming presence, compassionate nature and sense of humor. Blaine loved to laugh and I hope he is still laughing somewhere in the cosmos.

Blaine, like his brother, Erik, enjoyed family greatly and loved to hear and tell stories. We knew and admired his strong commitment to justice for all and education. My favorite memory of him is a Hopp family reunion some years ago at my sister's place at Lake Coeur d'Alene - great stories and much laughter.

I stated, on their 56th wedding anniversary card in July, that I had had the privilege and good fortune to be in their rear-view mirror from the beginning of their courtship, while I shared high school with Nancy, until this sad time, as she is forced to say goodbye to this special man and life-long husband and partner. I shared in her excitement when they first met. Our high school choir crowd got to meet him when he paid her one of the infrequent visits to San Diego, before their marriage. We were all amazed at what a striking resemblance Blaine had to Elvis Presley, at that time. It is safe to say, we were all favorably impressed! Being a part of their wedding day and on through life, Blaine and Nancy have been two of my dearest friends and I find it very hard to have to join everyone to let Blaine go on his new journey. His wit, his intelligence, his love for Nancy and his family will always set him apart from so many others.
I join all their other friends, family and acquaintances in sending my condolences as well as those of my daughters, Heather and Kimberly and their families, to Nancy, Bruce and Cyndi and their families at this difficult time.

Blaine was a kind and loving man and the best brother-in-law. He was my rock during his brother’s illness. I will always be grateful to him. May God hold him in His loving arms.
