Gloria Cummings Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Gloria Jean Cummingss will be held Monday, July 29, at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church in Eufaula with the Rev. Wash Williams, Senior Pastor and Pastor Lionel Green, officiating. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens of Eufaula. Eufaula Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Gloria Jean Cummings, affectionately known as "Jean," was born on August 20, 1946 to the late Robert Cummings and the late Lena Pearl Hollins in Clayton.
On Tuesday evening, July 23, Jean peacefully completed her earthly journey and found everlasting comfort in the arms of her loving Savior.
Jean accepted Christ at an early age at the Zion Baptist Church of Eufaula, under the pastorate of the Rev. G. H. Cossey.
Jean relocated to Newark, N.J. and joined the Second St. John Baptist Church where she served faithfully. She had a passion for gospel singing, which was fulfilled by joining a gospel group named The Heavenlyaires. On any given day, Jean could be heard singing a song by the Canton Spirituals, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Williams Brothers, or Pastor Donnie McClurkin. Jean was also passionate about decorating, crafting, and was a gifted seamstress.
Jean returned to her southern roots in 1998, residing in Eufaula and Webb.
Jean will always be remembered as a loving and devoted mother by her daughter Michelle (Andrew) Chambers of Webb. Sweet memories of an always-there-for-me grandmother will be treasured by her grandson, Jamil Cummings of Tampa, Fla. and granddaughter Tyannia Chambers of Webb. She was adored by her four great-grandchildren, Amari, Jamil, Christopher, and D'Andre. She was deeply loved by her sisters Mildred (Wayne) Calhoun of Jacksonville, Fla.; Betty Beasley of Conyers, Ga.; and brother Larry Carroll of Eufaula. She leaves one uncle Johnnie Ray Harris of Eufaula; two aunts Sallie B. Johnson of Dothan and Sally Mae Harris of Clayton. Cherishing her memory are four nieces, Holly Bass of Washington, DC, Courtney Beasley of Atlanta, Ga., and Chanele and Brilya Williams of Phenix City; two nephews, Preston (Roslynn) Calhoun of Fayetteville, Ga. and David Bass of San Jose, Calif. and a host of relatives and friends.
Jean was deeply loved by her godsons Aquil Waller of Union, N.J. and Jamese Morrison of Philadelphia, Pa.
