Walter Crow Obituary

Walter Roy Crow

April 11, 1938 - May 27, 2025

Walter Roy Crow, aged 87, passed away on May 27, 2025, in Birmingham, AL. A service was held on May 29.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Roy's life was marked by his unwavering Christian faith, delightful sense of humor, generous spirit, and a notable career.

Born on April 11, 1938, Roy grew up in Troy, Alabama. He went on to attend Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He furthered his education by obtaining an MBA from Howard College, now known as Samford University. He enjoyed a distinguished career with Alabama Power Company, where he eventually retired as Vice President of the Southeastern Division, having served in Birmingham, Anniston, and Eufaula.

Roy's personal life was rich with love and laughter, shared with Margaret Michael Crow, his wife of 60 years, and their daughters, Sally Kramer (Marc) of Gaithersburg, MD and Susan Crow (Steve Norris) of Birmingham. He was a cherished grandfather to Emily Kramer, Abigail Kramer, Isaac Obermiller, and Andrew Obermiller. His sister, Carol Crow Amos of Troy, also survives him. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, John Roy Crow and Beulah White Crow, and his brother, John C. Crow.

A man of deep faith, Roy was an active member of United Methodist churches in Anniston, Eufaula, and Vestavia Hills. His commitment to his community was evident through his involvement in teaching Sunday School, participating in economic development initiatives in southeast Alabama, and serving on numerous charitable boards and Chambers of Commerce in both Anniston and Eufaula.

Roy's hobbies included traveling, enjoying good food, and spending quality time at the beach with friends and family. He was a voracious reader and curious lifelong learner. His life was a testament to his belief in service and community engagement, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.

Roy Crow's legacy of generosity, humor, and dedication to his faith, family and community will be remembered by all who knew him. Ever grateful for the opportunities he had in his life, Roy was passionate about providing opportunities for others. To that end, he and Margaret established the Margaret and Roy Crow Scholarship for people pursuing training in skilled trades at the Sparks/Eufaula campus of Wallace Community College. The family requests that gifts be given to this fund in lieu of flowers (give.wallace.edu, choose Sparks and then the Margaret and Roy Crow Endowed Scholarship)
