Raymond Penn Obituary

Raymond Hollen Penn

West Melbourne, FL

Raymond Hollen Penn, 87, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 21, 2014. He was born in Astoria, Long Island, NY on October 7, 1927. Raised in Dayton, OH, he graduated from Oakwood HS in 1946, served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in the Philippines during WWII.

Ray graduated from the University of Dayton in June, 1952, and married Marilyn Horn the next week. They moved to Melbourne, FL in 1954 to accept a position in Contracts Administration at Radiation, Inc, a small company which is now Harris Corporation. During his more than 40 years of employment there, his favorite position was Director of Community Relations.

His many activities included teaching adult swimming at Pro Health, swimming regularly, keeping his 1959 TR3 running, sailing his 28 ft. 'Ragtime', and music, especially jazz. Ray also enjoyed photography and loved creating his own annual Christmas card. Ray's greatest passion was his family.

Ray is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; his daughter, Suzanne Boyd; his son, Mike; his granddaughters, Amy Wells (Clayton), Allison Pettigrew, and Haven Penn, and great-grandson, Holland Wells.

A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, Saturday, January 3rd at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Holy Trinity Memorial Fund or William Childs Hospice House.

Mrs. Penn, I just heard of you husbands passing. I am still in shock. What wonderful memories of him from the Rivermont days. His TR3 and how that was his baby. What a kind and gentle man. I will miss his Christmas card creations. I know no words can express my sorrow but know that you are thought of at this very difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with you, Suzie and Mike. I love you all. Bo
