Major General George Kuttas, USA (Ret) was born in Philadelphia on 24 February, 1927. In 1945 he was drafted into the Navy advancing to rank of Petty Officer. Following the Navy, MG Kuttas attended the University of Pennsylvania.  In 1951 he graduated from dental school and accepted an Army ROTC Commission. George began his Army career at Fort Sam Houston where he met and fell in love with a USAF 2d Lieutenant with whom he would go on to have four children. He held numerous operations and staff assignments, to include command of the 40th Medical Detachment, Cu Chi, Republic of Viet Nam which received three unit citations during his tenure. In 1979 he was promoted to Major General and assigned Assistant Surgeon General and Chief of the Army Dental Corps. He is a graduate of the Army's first General Dentistry Residency Program, the Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College and was the first dental officer to receive the Surgeon General's prefix in the General Dentistry specialty.  His awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit w/oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star and Expert Field Medical Badge. MG Kuttas is survivied by his wife of 63 years, the former Helen Elizabeth Gleeson, two sons, a daughter, 8 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3rd at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church. A funeral at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Condolences to the Kuttas family. I served with Dr. Kuttas at West Point in the mid sixtees. He was great practitioner and administrator.

James and I just found out about George's passing and were devastated that we found out too late for the service here. We are so sorry for your loss. You both were so special to us when our Dad passed. Please know we are thinking of you. Love you all!
