Patricia Dupuis Obituary

BARRINGTON ; Patricia Ann (Laramie) Dupuis, 59, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008, at her home, following a long, but optimistic battle with leukemia.

Born Nov. 20, 1948, in Exeter, N.H., Patricia was the daughter of the late Eugene and Eleanor Laramie.

She graduated from Exeter High School, received her bachelor of education from Keene State College and her master's from the University of New Hampshire in Durham. Patricia, a grade school teacher, was truly devoted to her students and greatly inspired by her work with them. She spent her entire 37-year career teaching elementary and middle school in the Somersworth, N.H. school district, retiring in 2007.

During her career as an educator, she touched the lives of hundreds of children, spent time as head teacher and was an active negotiator for the rights of her colleagues.

Family was paramount for Patricia. She found a great deal of joy in hosting large family gatherings such as barbecues and holiday dinners. A genuinely giving person, she was rewarded in her life by being constantly surrounded and supported by true friends.

Patricia was a passionate woman whose continuous thirst for knowledge and avid pursuit of adventure inspired and influenced those around her. She enjoyed the excitement of traveling near and far. Motivated and drawn toward things that would connect her to the earth, she reveled in the opportunity to relax on a warm beach, appreciated the vigor of a hike in the mountains and discoveries made while on a bicycle ride. An ideal afternoon would be comprised of listening to the Beatles while gardening in the sun, diving into a good book or sharing a margarita with friends on the deck. Patricia Dupuis was an amazing woman and friend and will be greatly missed by many.

Her immediate family members include her husband, Ivan; her beloved son, David; her brother and sister-in-law, Carl and June Laramie; her sister, Joyce Wheet; her niece, Jennifer Wheet; her nephew and niece, Michael and Kitty Wheet; her mother-in-law, Alexina Dupuis; her brother-in-law, Bill Wheet, and her dog and constant companion, "Raynee."

Patricia's family members would like to express their gratitude and thanks to all her loving friends and co-workers, too numerous to mention, who gave their time, support and love in Pat's time of need, and always kept her spirits up.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 8 at First Parish United Church of Christ, 176 West High St., Somersworth, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, follow Patricia's lead and donate to the Jimmy Fund, Attn: Contribution Services, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wiggin-Purdy-McCooey-Dion Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave., Dover, N.H.

Our passion for education and the memories of the EHS Class of 1966 we shared. It is with a heavy heart I learn of Pat's passing. I remember her last at one of our class reunions. She loved her students and family and taught them well. There is no greater gift!

I will miss Pat greatly! I worked with her in her classroom as I was a paraprofessional and a substitute teacher for almost 9 years at Somersworth Middle School! I loved working in and out of her classroom supporting her lesson plan and students. She always had funny stories for me and enjoyed the students. My fondest memories were supporting Pat on field trips like singing Christmas Carols at the Nursing Homes in town, traveling to plays, Science Museums and York Colonial Museum spending the day as a colonist in Colonial times. Pat loved sharing all these activities and was loved by all for adding these real life experiences in her lesson plan. Many times after school I loved spending time with Pat for dinner and enjoyed a cocktail with her a time or two. What a great lady! She left such a positive legacy through her life!

I was saddened to hear of Mrs. Dupuis passing. She was my favorite teacher in all my years of schooling. She was my 2nd grade teacher at the old Chandler School and I will never forget her warm and hearfelt personality that she passed on to her students in the classroom. She made learning enjoyable and fun. My condolences to her family as she will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Dupuis was one of my favorite teachers growing up. She taught me a lot about life - even if I was only a "fourth grader." The thing I will remember most is fashioning a mount for her classroom to hang the American flag. I really think she appreciated that gesture....
Mrs Dupuis was a wonderful teacher and great mentor. She will be missed.

Pat and I taught together in Somersworth, NH for many years. We team taught at Maplewood School and trained our share of interns. Always a true professional, she cared deeply for each student, and surely made an impact on many lives. Much more than a colleague, Pat was also a family friend. I have wonderful memories of times at camp in Milton, and our many trips and forays to musicals at North Shore Music Theater, as well as our fabulous "hen" parties. I will always treasure the time we had together. Goodbye, good friend.

I was in Mrs. Dupuis' 1st and 2nd grade class from about 1980 to 1982 and I can still remember how much I looked forward to seeing her everyday and being part of her class. I was sad to read of her passing and my heart goes out to her friends and family.

Pat was the 5th grade teacher for all three of our children, now ages 22, 20 and 18. She always took the time to go the "extra mile" where any student was concerned. What a sad day for Somersworth with her passing. I will especially miss her, as I worked for SAU56, and we always kidded each other about my going to Boston with her on yet another field trip on the "Freedom Trail." Rest well my friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mrs. Dupuis was my 2nd grade teacher back in 1980-81 at Maplewood. She was a wonderful teacher and someone who will always hold a special place in my heart. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

I am so very sad to hear of Mrs. Dupuis' passing...she was my first and second grade teacher and made a huge difference in my life. I will never forget her. She is the first person who encouraged me to sing onstage...she put on the first of many talent shows at Maplewood elementary school. She will never be forgotten!

I am so sorry for your families loss. I had Ms. Dupuis in the fourth grade at Garrison School in Dover. Although she was very strict she was someone who always came into my mind over the years. The school system needs more teachers like her.

I am so sad to learn of Pat's death. I have held her in high esteem since we worked together teaching the same grade levels many years ago in Somersworth. She was a great team player, wonderfully supportive and full of great ideas. Her contributions in the field of education will be sorely missed.
