John Burger Obituary

John L. Burger of Bensalem died with the same grace and dignity with which he lived on Monday, March 6, 2017 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne. He was 77 and his loving family was by his side.

John was a devoted husband of almost 50 years to his loving wife, Marilynn Vogt Burger.

Born in Frederick, MD he was the son of the late Lewis Smith Burger and Mae Ahalt Burger.

A former resident of Philadelphia, John moved his family to Bensalem in 1973. A graduate of the University of Maryland, he had a distinguished career as a Transportation Planner, working with the Pennsylvania Railroad, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte), and SEPTA, before eventually retiring from the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission in 2001. An avid athlete and lover of sports, John co-founded Valley Athletic Association, where he was a President and Commissioner, and was a Coach for many of his children's teams. In his leisure, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren, vegetable gardening, grilling, playing golf, fishing, and the Jersey shore.

In addition to his beloved wife, Marilynn, John is survived by his treasured children and their spouses, John M. Burger and his wife Elaine of Madison, NJ, Charles L. Burger and his wife Debbie of Quakertown, PA, and Sandie K. Glover and her husband Aaron of Monkton, MD. He is also survived by his five grandchildren whom he loved so much, Matthew, James, Olivia, Melanie, and Stephen, his loving sister Patricia Myers of Richmond, VA and her daughter Lauren Stiglich and husband Bryan. He was preceded in death by Patricia's husband, Ed, and their son, Justin. John's kindness, warmth, and wit will be missed by neighbors, former colleagues, caregivers-especially Dr. Raj and his staff at RHOA-and countless friends, especially life-long friends Phil and Marianne Bosche.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family from 3:30pm until his Funeral Service at 4:30pm on Sunday, March 12th in the Joseph A. Fluehr III Funeral Home, 800 Newtown-Richboro Road (at Holland Rd.) Richboro, PA 18954, www.fluehr.com/resources for directions and lodging. John's interment will be private.
