Henry Lopez Obituary

HENRY LOPEZ "Enrique"

Henry "Enrique" Lopez, age 50, went to be with God on Thursday, June 9, 2005. He was born on May 17, 1955, in Delano, CA to the late Mary Pena and Augustine Lopez. He graduated from California State University, Fresno in 1982, with a B.A. Degree in Fine Arts. Enrique shared his early life with four sisters, Martha Pena, Mary Lou Anzaldua, Margaret Salinas, and Vera Marure; and two brothers, David Ortiz and Paul Pena, who is now deceased. In 1978, Enrique moved to Fresno to attend CSU Fresno. Upon graduation, he continued developing his style as a painter. Stained glass windows, religious icons, paintings of the Catholic Church, and his Latino heritage left an imprint that forever influenced his art work. Community service was very important to Enrique. He was generous in donating both his time and his artwork to many charitable and civic organizations. His passion and concern for his fellow human beings was global. His large circle of friends, whom he loved as family, could always depend on his humor, enthusiasm and childlike wonder with life. Enrique's artwork will be his legacy. His expressions of his world, of life and of love, in color on canvas, will forever impact the people that are fortunate enough to connect with his life's work. He is survived by Benjamin Locke, his companion of 27 years. The day that Ben and Enrique met in a Fresno State art class, Ben said that he felt they would be great longtime friends. His close relationships with his Aunt Petra and the entire Sanchez family, sister Vera, cousins Rosie and Ira, and Johnny and his family, gave him great comfort throughout his life. His friends and family would like to give a special thank you to Mary and Ross LaBaugh, Hinds Hospice and Dr. Tegest Hailu. A Memorial Service is planned. The information will be on Enrique's web site, www.valleyartbox.com beginning June 15, 2005. Enrique requested that donations be made to Community Medical Centers Foundation, c/o Community Special Services, PO Box 1232, Fresno CA 93715, in memory of Enrique Lopez.

I was deeply saddened to hear that Henry has passed away. I have fond memories of both Henry and Ben. I only regret that I do not own a painting by Enrique. But I display Ben's "Rose Cone's" prominently in my home here in Colorado.

My thoughts are with you, Ben.

Most sincerely

To my Poopsie,

We love and miss you. Seeing you leave us and no way to stop the process was more pain than any of us could bare. We were consoled by being there for each other and you during your passing. Thank you to Ben, Ross, Josie, Nancy, Mark, Fred, Arturo, Jeff, Johnny, Claudia, and Mary. Best friend and brother to me is who you are.

I am deeply saddened by Enrique's passing. He was an artist of the best kind-- enlightened, generous, and immensely talented. He also projected the compassion that ensues from a kind and gentle spirit. Fresno, and in particular the arts community, has lost someone very very special. My deepest sympathy to Ben, Enrique's family, and all his friends. Sincerely, Bebe Long

Ben:

My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. You were not only Enrique's life long friend but also a very loving and caring individual. I had a special place in my heart for Enrique who always filled my life with laughter and a love for life. I will never forget him since I know what an impact he left on many lives he touched with his big heart. I will always be here if you need me to do anything for you. You are also a wonderful friend and I am so thankful you are in our lives....Love Michael
