I meet Mike Thomas in 1990 and he was one of the greatest Coleopterist the world will ever know. He always took the time to look at my specimens from South Florida no matter how busy he was. He will truly be missed.

Ive met many people in my life. Some are acquaintances, others are friends, and then there are those who are special.
Mike Thomas was special. An amazing artist. A gifted writer and poet. A true intellect. Mike was the quintessential Renaissance man.
With all of his talents and gifts, it might surprise some that he dedicated his lifes work to entomology. Those of us who have known Mike for more than fifty years understand that he viewed his excellence in drawing and writing merely as tools to convey his true passion.
I have always admired those few among us who dedicate their lives to a singular pursuit in a narrow field of study. Particularly in the sciences, where this focus when linked with the broader scientific community becomes the basis for some of mans most heralded achievements. And while Mikes work and discoveries in entomology will immortalize him, it is his love of family, compassion for others and cherished friendship that will keep him forever in my heart.

Dr. Thomas was a very longtime friend (40+ years) of the Frank Family. His love for his wife and for his daughters and his passion for Entomology will endure always. ~ Dr. J.H. Frank and Audrey Frank and Christine and Jocelyn and Susan.
