RILL, IRVING R.
Irving R. Rill passed away peacefully at the E.T. York hospice house with his family by his side on December 12, after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 87. Irving was born on June 16, 1922 in Brooklyn, New York.
Irving had a diverse and exceptional professional life. He was a historical records keeper and radio operator for the Army during World War II. He began his professional career as an ad man (often referred to as Mad Men because of their location on Madison Avenue) for J. Walter Thompson, one of the leading advertising agencies in the 1950's. He was later made head of the South African division of the firm and lived in Johannesburg, South Africa for many years where he personally managed the Coca-Cola account and won many industry awards.
He later returned to New York and became president of American Univend, a publicly traded company known for such nationally recognized products as Alkaid and Cloramint. He also become an executive at C & C Television in the television syndication and distribution division and was responsible for the distribution of several famous movies, including "All About Eve," starring Betty Davis. He also briefly worked at Allen and Company, an investment banking firm in New York City, where he oversaw mergers and acquisitions. These deals were mainly in the entertainment area with one acquisition being the film library of RKO Pictures. In the mid-sixties he moved to Miami, FL and later started his own investment firm, Ameril Corp. His firm took many small companies public well into the 1990's and was responsible for such leveraged buyouts as Booth Fisheries from the Sara Lee Corporation. During this period he also founded International Health Services in 1978, and within 2 years it became the largest distributor of plasmapheresis outside the U.S. He lived for the deal, and while he semi-retired in 1992, he was still active in business until 2008. He moved to Gainesville, FL two years ago to be closer to his son, Robb, and was a physically and socially active resident of The Village well into his 87th year. Irving had an immensely generous heart, a great sense of humor, and a sharp mind. He was instantly likable to everyone who met him, and he always had a story to share about the exciting and fascinating experiences he had during his full life. Irving left this life the same way he lived it - without complaint and full of courage. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Maxwell Rosenzweig and Gussie Rill, and his beloved wife of 27 years, Norris Faye Rill.
He is survived by his sister, Elaine Baumshlag of Boca Raton, FL; brother, David Rill of Boca Raton, FL; children, Susan Rill of Palm Beach, FL, Douglas Rill of Palm Beach, FL, Valerie Arthur of Dunellon, FL, Robb Rill and daughter-in-law Tara Rill of Gainesville, FL, and five grandsons.
