Anna Maltby Obituary

MALTBY, ANNA BEACH

Anna Beach Maltby, age 88, of Gainesville, FL, died surrounded by her children on Monday, September 15, 2008 in Gainesville. Anna was born at home in Hastings, FL on January 22, 1920 to Joseph William and Marion Corbett Beach. In 1942 she married her high school sweetheart, Harold Maltby.

She was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church and always active in the community. Anna enjoyed being a member of the Garden Club, Bridge Club, PTA, Band Boosters and other school, church and civic organizations.

In her spare time she enjoyed working in her yard, arranging flowers, sewing and painting. Anna became an award winning artist which led to a commissioned painting.

One of her greatest joys was a deep love for her family. She loved spending the summers at the beach with the grandchildren, sharing her love of fishing and good southern cooking with her family.

Anna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She is survived by four children, Cheri Morris and husband, Jim Morris of Gulfport, MS; Gayle Griffin of St. Augustine, FL; Brenda Lepay and husband, Tom Lepay of Gainesville, FL and Greg Maltby of St. Augustine, FL; 12 grandchildren: Lanie Spears, Stacey Friend, Misty Sigler, and Wendy Holifield of Gulfport, MS; Gina Griffin, Jessica LaCaze of St. Augustine and Ashley Flaschen of Jacksonville; Tom Lepay, Jr., Holly Hill and Tim Lepay of Gainesville, FL; Heather Maltby of Venice Beach, CA and Cory Maltby of St. Augustine; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don Beach of Palatka, FL and many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.

Anna was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Harold Maltby, four brothers and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, FL 32606 in appreciation of all the care offered to Anna and her family.

Cheri, Gayle, Brenda, Gregory - Thinking about you. I love Anna Maltby. So many memories of your parents. I will not be in Christ United Methodist Church on Sunday. My heart will be there - words of the apostle Paul: "If our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." We can rejoice in our sorrow knowing our departed loved ones are now present with the Lord. (2 Cor. 5:1)

Anna Maltby had a very large impact on my family and my upbringing. She was one of the most caring souls I have ever known... From the time I can remember, my Aunt Anna was always the one that pitched in to help when someone was sick, hurt, or worse. I can still see her washing dishes and cleaning off the table at the farm. She was the "rock" and the person that was always there. I was blessed to continue in contact with her when my children were young and a week at "Summerhouse" was like going home again. Both she and Harold always made you feel welcome and used it as an opportunity to relive all the fun we had growing up (and there was a lot of fun to remember!) Anna and Harold embodied "The Greatest Generation"... I pray I can leave a fraction of the legacy that they left us. We will miss you Aunt Anna.
