Thomas McNamara Obituary

Thomas Joseph McNamara was born on August 29, 1938, to Catherine Schulte and Gerald T. McNamara in Racine, Wisconsin. He attended St. Catherine's High School, where he was known for his love of cars. He studied pre-med at Notre Dame University and continued on to Marquette University. He graduated with a DDS and began a profession he enjoyed his entire career. Tom served with the Air Force for six years following graduation. He then chose Colorado as his home; a place he loved as a boy. It was here he began his dental practice of nearly 50 years; most of those at Chapel Hills Dental. He retired in December, 2014. Tom often said that the people were his favorite part of the practice; patients and long time staff are what he missed most.

Tom loved life. He found joy in many things: traveling, antique shopping, art, music, photography and a good beer. One of his favorite pastimes was to find a new brew pub wherever he traveled- always with a report back home. Collecting and restoring cars became a lifelong hobby, a passion he passed on to his boys, complete with annual car show trips. He loved animals and could be found walking his dog with family almost daily. Abby traveled most places with him, including the office. He was kind and generous with friends and family. The twinkle in his eye and his laugh will be missed by all that knew him. His sarcastic wit will be missed by most!

Family was Tom's greatest love, and he was much loved in return. His companion for the last 24 years was Catherine 'Kay' Anderson- McNamara. Tom and Kay married March 7, 2003. He has four children; Laura McNamara, Kevin and Kym McNamara, Chris and Julie McNamara, and Mary McNamara, with mother Nancy Birong McNamara. Additional family consists of: foster son Bob Todd; step children Jeffrey Jones and Stephanie (Jones) and Don Mosley; grandchildren, Thomas and Tyler McNamara; and cousin Richard and Maryann Kreul.

Tom passed away on May 9, 2017, he was surrounded by loved ones. There will be a private memorial.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Thomas J. McNamara fund at the Pikes Peak Humane Society; 719-302-8725 or www.hsppr.org.

Dr. McNamara, I have to thank you for being such a wonderful Dad. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing you that well, but you must have been a wonderful person to have raised such an amazing daughter. I wish I could take her pain away from the loss of you, but I know in my heart she has your strength and will carry that strength with her forever. Thank you for making her You've made many beautiful contributions to this world, and I thank you for all of them. You will be missed, but never forgotten. You did good❤
