Anita Finkel Obituary

Anita Marie Finkel July 10, 1944 – September 30, 2012 Anita Marie Finkel went to be with her Lord on September 30, 2012, due to complications from PSP. She was born in Franklin, LA., to Jack W. Major and Jackie Frost Major, on July 10, 1944. Anita was raised in Houston, TX. She graduated in 1962, from St. Agnes Academy, an all-girl's Catholic high school. She made many lifelong friends at St. Agnes, and over the years, Anita and these wonderful ladies shared many laughs and good times. She attended college at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. She later continued her studies at Mesa State College, graduating with a degree in Elementary Education. She later received her Master's Degree from Lesley University. Anita taught reading and special education for School District 51 for 15 years, 13 of which were at Shelledy Elementary School in Fruita, CO. Anita lived in Dubai and Singapore. She enjoyed her travels throughout Europe, the Orient, New Zealand and Australia. Anita married Roger Finkel on March 28, 1992. He was dedicated to Anita throughout their marriage and they enjoyed many happy times together. Anita was a member of New Life Church. She loved living in the Grand Valley and had an active social life. She was a great entertainer and enjoyed playing bridge and Bunco, going to the beach and dancing. She was the yard sale and auction queen! Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by her loving husband, Roger Finkel; her mother, Jackie Lonsford; daughters and their families, Melissa (Knothe) Thompson and Terra (Knothe) Vowles; step-sons and their families, Jim Talbert, Casey Talbert, Mark Talbert, Rudy Talbert and Larry Talbert; brothers and their families, Estes Major, Bobby Major, Jack Major and Michael Lonsford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Chuck and Carole Finkel and Dick and Robin Finkel; 11 grandchildren, 19 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Anita was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at New Life Church, 1350 N. 7th St., Grand Junction, CO on Thursday, October 4th at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it was Anita's wish that contributions be made to any of the following organizations: CurePSP: 30 E. Padonia Road, Suite 201, Timonium, MD 21093; Hospice of the Grand Valley: 3090 N. 12th St., Unit B, Grand Junction, CO 81506; New Life Church Benevolent Fund: 1350 N. 7th St., Grand Junction, CO 81501.
