Dennis Anderson Obituary



Dennis C. Anderson, 68 of Bristol passed away peacefully at home Thursday evening April 28, 2016 with his beloved wife, Karen by his side. Dennis was born in Manchester, CT on September 30, 1947 son of the late Russell Anderson and Julia Mae (Shaw) Anderson. Dennis was a proud U.S. Marine veteran serving two tours beginning in 1965 during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1970. He was attached to the 1st BN 7th Marines who were known as "Suicide Charlie". For over 40 years, Dennis was an Orthopedic Assistant and had worked for Dr. Timothy McLaughlin and Dr. Brian Comstock. Dennis was an avid Civil War re-enactor with the 27th CT Volunteers and was also a voracious military history buff and collector of World War I artifacts. He and his wife loved to travel and collected antiques all over the U.S. and Canada. Dennis was also a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, New York Giants and Boston Bruins. Besides his wife, Karen (Kumkowski) Anderson, Dennis leaves his father-in-law and mother-in-law Joseph and Mary Ann Kumkowski; cousins, Robert "Bucky" Jones and his wife Cookie, Wendy and Bob Snider, Tom and Barbara Martello, Marty and Pat Martello and Jim and Gail Martello; Sisters-in-law Pam Tanguay and her husband Paul, Mary Ann Tanguay and her husband Russell; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews. Dennis' funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville/Bristol. Committal services and interment with full military honors will follow in the State Veterans Cemetery, Middletown. All are invited to calling hours on Monday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. I remember Dennis from high school. He would draw cartoons of the teachers and share them. We exchanged letters while he was in Viet Nam.He was a kind, sensitive person. So sorry to hear of his passing. Sincere condolences to his wife and family.
