Susannah Shickman Obituary

Susannah E. Shickman of Bloomfield, CT, passed away on October 11, 2019. Born in Manhattan on June 13, 1947, Susannah attended the Brearley School. She studied art history at Finch College in New York and did graduate work at Columbia University. She also attended the University of Hartford where she worked at its radio station. Her father, Herman Shickman, was an eminent New York art dealer specializing in the Old Masters period and Susannah was immersed in the world of art from early childhood. Her art interest transcended all periods of time and included her making her own art. Her efforts culminated in a one-woman show at the Hartford Jewish Community Center. She was a dedicated aficionado of art museums, large and small, local and overseas, but especially the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford. She also loved to collect art. Susannah also worked as a fitness and yoga instructor at the Jewish Community Center and other clubs in the Hartford area. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Kaye, of Wayne, Pennsylvania, Barbara's husband, Howard Kaye and nieces Hannah Bess Kaye and Nora Kaye. She was predeceased by her parents, Lila and Herman Shickman. Gratitude for loving care to Susannah is owed to her aides, Christina Panton and Carla Wright. Funeral arrangements are with Riverside Memorial Chapel, 180 West 76th Street, New York, New York: (212) 362-6600
