Anne Elvgren Obituary

Anne Elvgren of Farmington, passed unexpectedly and peacefully on April 2, 2021. Formerly from St. Paul Minnesota and Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Anne was preceded in death by her father Graham Elvgren, mother Margy Elvgren, and beloved brother, Alex Elvgren. She is survived by her sister, Joan Carlson of Minneapolis, Minnesota and her two nephews, Michael and Stephen. Anne lived an exemplary life, and her relationships with family, friends, community and related professional endeavors were her greatest joy and accomplishment. Anne epitomized the genuine friendliness and niceness of her hometown of St. Paul. She was an outstanding community leader and volunteer, making a remarkable impact on the places and the people in her sphere of influence. Anne devoted her skilled marketing and management experience to building the reputation and success of prominent businesses and nonprofits. She served for eleven years as the Chief Marketing Officer at Blum, Shapiro & Co., P. C. Following that, Anne was the Chief Marketing Officer at Robinson & Cole LLP. Anne's career also included roles as lead marketer at two preeminent architectural practices and as senior manager in a major community nonprofit. Anne was a valued member of the Metro Hartford Alliance and the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA). She also served as a member of the Legal Marketing Association and the Association for Accounting Marketing, where she was on the national board of directors. Anne served as Board member at the Mark Twain House for many years. She was also a Trustee of the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame and co-chair of its Governance & Nominating Committee; an appointed member of the State of Connecticut's Culture and Tourism Advisory Committee; an Overseer of The Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts and longtime member of its Marketing Committee; a corporator of The iQuilt Partnership; a member and former director of the Connecticut Women's Council; a former committee member of the Travelers Championship Women's Day Committee; and former member of the gala committee of The Children's Law Center. Anne was also a proud member of the International Women's Forum of Connecticut. She was selected by the Hartford Business Journal as a Remarkable Woman in Business. Perhaps most touching and important, Anne was a wonderful and genuine friend. She went the distance to support, encourage, inspire and foster the advancement and well-being of her friends. Therefore, Anne leaves a very big family of friends as well as her sister Joan to grieve her departure. She is missed more than words can say. A memorial service will be announced and held at a later date this spring. Donations can be made in honor of Anne to the Hill-Stead Museum, hillstead.donation.veevartapp.com/donation or to the Mark Twain House and Museum, marktwainhouse.org/support/donate. Anne was the most kind, generous and thoughtful friend. We became friends many years ago and she always knew how to put a smile on my face. I enjoyed listening to all of her antiquing adventures and loved when she would show me her newest treasures. She will be missed dearly.

As one of the countless people who have loved and adored Anne, I am proud to have called her a true friend and sister. What a blessing it has been to have known her for 46 years. Anne: your loss is still so painful. I can still hear you saying "we've known each other through thick and thin" and the infectious laugh that followed. To have lost you in the family is beyond devastation. It is still so hard to think that you are gone.
We were all looking forward to reunite in DC this weekend. I know you will be there in spirit.

The life you led of service with such love and grace and every tiny detail will be undoubtedly be missed. Who will go shopping with me and touch every material to see if its good quality? I will miss you.

Love,
Marjie

Anne was the dearest of friends! I love this photo of her with my dog, who knew what a special person Anne was and stayed close to her whenever she visited. Anne and I were fellow midwesterners who both moved to New England from Milwaukee. We had a cherished ritual of fall weekends together every year for 20 years, visiting different venues each time and always loving our time together. She made friends wherever we went, including antique shop owners in every state! Anne was an expert in friendship and living life to its fullest. I miss her terribly, and will keep her in my heart always. Heartfelt condolences to her family and huge circle of friends. I know she would want us to celebrate her and remember her with happy memories—and we have them in abundance. Love you, Anne!

Anne will be missed by many - but especially by the numerous young professionals that she took the time to mentor. She also was one of the key drivers in building the Blum brand in Connecticut! RIP Anne

I was deeply saddened to hear of Anne’s passing. In true Anne fashion she had recently reached out to touch base in the hopes of getting together. I will always remember her tireless energy, sincere friendship and real desire to put people together especially women. I’ve been blessed to have known Anne and will deeply miss her.

I had only met Anne about a year ago but we instantly connected because of our shared Minnesota heritage. Even in the midst of COVID, she was a spirited advocatae for the Mark Twain House and the Hill-Stead museum—both area treasures that she very much loved. I am very sorry for her Minnesota family, too. She made a big difference here, dontcha know.

Anne Elvgren was a Force of Nature, a second sister and best friend to me, and to a legion of others. Simply Indomitable. As a tribute, I share a quote from Thornton Wilder. “ All that we can know about those we have loved and lost is that they would wish us to remember them with a more intensified realization of reality. What is essential does not die but clarifies. The highest tribute to the dead is not grief but Gratitude.”
Thank you, dear Annie.

It is with a heavy heart that I remember Anne and the incredible light she brought to all she did, and especially to all those who had the privilege to call her a friend. I knew Anne first through the Conn. Women's Council, and then Robinson & Cole, and once you knew Anne, you always were fortunate to bask in her glow. Yesterday, I received a message from one of the many people she touched, who shared it with others in her huge circle. It so eloquently noted that Anne's generosity, grace and grit were unmatched and inspired such affection and love for her by so many. No one who knew Anne is alone in their grief; we are all part of her family, connected to one another through her. And, we all were so blessed to know her and will miss her dearly. There is no doubt in my mind that Heaven is a better place now that our angel has arrived. My deepest condolences to her sister and entire, extended family.

Anne was a dear friend .....I had the privilege of working with her while she was the Marketing Director at JCJ Architecture. We collaborated on many development projects and she taught me lots. What I love about Anne the most is that she built everyone up around her....and boy could she connect the dots to put people and businesses together. We always stayed in touch through our intertwined volunteer efforts. I am sorely going to miss Anne

Anne was a trailblazer and a role model to all of us. Her mission in life was to help others. Her laugh and smile was contagious. She radiated positiveness and thrived as an entrepreneur. If you wanted to meet anyone in Connecticut, you’d reach out to Anne. She was respected by all. Her loss will leave a huge hole in our hearts but her memories will live with us forever. I know Anne is looking down at us and saying don’t grieve, don’t cry, we will meet again someday. Rest in peace Anne. We love you.
