Alison, I am so sorry to learn, especially so late, of Gene's passing. (I was at the time, recovering from emergency surgery to straighten the crooked leg that I know you noticed at Cornerstone). You have been unforgettably supportive to me at critical times, wishing that you find the the peace and pride that many great memories can bring.

Allison,
I was so sorry to read about Gene. I have often thought about our meeting in Elizabeth Park several years ago. There was something very special about that day and I have continued to think about both of you...I am so sorry that you have had so much loss. I hope our paths will cross again.

Dear Alison and family,
I am so, so sorry for your loss! I will always remember how brilliant and interesting Gene was, and how much my students enjoyed his visit to Hall High School, where he discussed his book about Chick Austin. We all learned so much that day! I wish I knew what to say to make you feel better about your loss. I know that Gene was a beautiful person, loving husband and father, and that the world is dimmer without his light.
Sincerely,
Simone Vrabel le Coutre

I am so sorry to learn of Gene's passing - and so grateful to be able to learn so much about his amazing life. I knew Gene in high school, and if I had thought about it, I might have predicted such a career -- he was truly a unique and special person even then. My heartfelt sympathies to his family.

Dear Alison and Family
Lee and I are so very sad to learn of Gene’s passing. Gene was such a special person- his work in the arts was amazing.
We remember many nice times sitting together at soccer games with our girls, cheering them on! And some very nice dinners with the two of you, too.
Please let us know how we can be supportive -our thoughts and prayers are with you.

My deepest sympathies to all of Eugene's family and friends. His passing is not only a loss to you, but to the greater community as well. I remember him well from when he taught at Hartford College for Women, where I was a young administrator with duties that included arranging for the audio-visual equipment he wanted to use for every class, which was just about unheard of in those days. Students just loved his class and found it so interesting and engaging! A special hug to his HCW alumna sister-in-law Lydia. May you all be left with many happy memories, peaceful hearts, and gratitude for Eugene's life.

I learned today of Gene's audition at the Royal Academy when in London! What an accomplished life. It makes the most sense now that he could tell the most wonderful stories with that gleam in his eye. Always the gentleman. So many will miss him. Our love to you , Elizabeth and David.

Alison, I'm so sorry to learn of Gene's passing. Although he and I did not know each other personally, I enjoyed a series of lectures he presented at U of Hartford's President's College on Chick Austin a few years ago. Debbie's and my thoughts are with you and your family at this difficult time. May you have many fond memories of your years together to enjoy.

Dear Gaddis Family,
On behalf of the staff of the West Hartford Public Library, I would like to extend our deepest condolences to you. We always enjoyed visits from the Gaddis family and to hear in later years, where everyone was and what they were doing. Where have the years gone? Eugene was such a fine gentleman and we always had wonderful chats. The loss of such a fine man is devastating to your family and the entire community. In support and friendship, Carol Waxman

Dear Alison: We met when I was working at the Shopping Bag market in Bloomfield in the late 1970's. My wife was doing her residency in Family Medicine at John Dempsey Hospital. Carol and I enjoying watching fireworks with you and Gene on the Fourth of July, and sharing picnics at Trinity College during carillon concerts. We shared your joy when you were expecting David! Gene died far too young, but his legacy will live on at the Atheneum. I know that your faith will sustain you as you mourn his loss. Sincerely, Rev. David Roones, Bloomfield, CT
